NAC 82, SUPERCAP, NAP300 No or extremely low sound.

Hey Guys,

Ive purchased my system recently and today i connected everything up and I am getting no audio or extremely low volume from both channels. I have double checked all connections and Ive spoken to the dealers from whom I purchased the equipment and as far as they can tell including myself everything is connected correctly.

I cannot take all the components to the dealers that I purchased from as they are several hundred miles from me. Local dealers do not wish to assist without charging a very high amount per hour.

I am really stuck in the middle as I need to diagnose the problem quickly as i need to know which components is faulty. Or if it is a cable issue or something else?

Please any suggestions?

Analog, that's really helpful. There is no reason whatsoever to sell the Hugo, and it's easy for Khan to ensure that his system is properly grounded. I confess that I've just checked the manual for my 272 to see which setting I should use for the ground switch, and it was set correctly. The Naim manual is clear that there is no safety issue involved, but that sound quality can be compromised if the switch is set incorrectly. So I'm sure you are not imagining the improvements you found by changing the switch position.

I spoke to Naim and they said it is not necessary to attempt a signal ground unless there is a disturbing hum sound emanating from the speakers/amp. I mentioned 'signal grounding', so I do not want to risk anything unless anyone has an easy solution to ground the signal from a NAC 82. Just to reiterate my source component is a Chord Hugo DAC

If it needs grounding with a Hugo you can tell, it buzzes loudly.  Its easy enough to ground if you need to - if its not buzzing I would suggest you leave well alone.

I would also consider your room - not being sure where you live, it needs to be remembered the  at the olive Naim kit was developed when UK interiors were heavily carpeted. If you have parkquet or tiled floors and lots of windows, then this will overly brighten things. Often, this brightness can be tamed by strategic positioning of floor and wall rugs and other soft furnishings. More specific hi-fi solutions also exist to tame the contribution of difficult rooms - bass traps, dampening, etc.
