Power distribution

I currently run my Naim integrated and CD player from a conventional trailing socket

I realise this is not ideal but it is practical

Is there a way of improving this economically (less than £100 budget) that will make a significant improvement to sound quality

Make sure the socket does not have LEDs or switches - usually get the least expensive block with just the number of free sockets you actually need. Place the Amp at the socket nearest the wall (or at the wall if you have a double-socket there) and the source (CD) in the next free socket next to the CD.

Try fancy adapters after you have tried this - they are better (sometimes), but cost a lot, unless you can get a demo to prove it worth the money - sometimes it is worth it and sometimes not.

Definitely. Be very weary of power conditioners as well.

depending on the stability of your power supply and how 'dirty' your mains supply is, you may have to choose a power strip with some RFI filters and surge protection. But always audition.

If the two leads will reach the power socket, wire the two boxes into the same plug.

Maplins is your friend for simple no LED multi-socket extension leads. They seem to do no harm at all compared to plugging straight into a wall socket.

Cheap, cheerful and good.

Make a run of a dado trunking fixed to the wall fitted with un-switched sockets. You can add as many as you need. I wired up eight for my system.

If possible plug the kit directly into the wall sockets and have a listen. Then try your trailing extension lead again. Now you make your mind up which is best, and how much effort it is worth to connect in the preffered method.
