naim powerline!

Posted by: Ricard on 06 March 2016

Hi!

im thinking of buying 4 powerlines to connect them with my cdx2,nac282,250.2 and my supercap dr.

my question is if its really a good and noticeable upgrade,i now have an powerigel thats suppluing the gear with Power.

i know its a lot of Money but i Think it will make my  naimgear sound even better, but i dont know for sure so i want to know if anyone on this forum has tried it,is it gonna make a sonical difference in my gear?

Surely four Powerlines are all you need: CDX2, napsc, Supercap, 250. Four powered boxes, four wires. Am I missing something?

Yeah, maybe reading the entire OP. The question was about quality not quantity. I think we can all do the math.

It seems that Ricard did not do the math... So he will have a Powerline on the napsc after all, which is good.

Or put the PowerLine on the source and use the standard power lead on the NAPSC.

No need - as Joe says, do the math.

i wasnt sure that the powerline on the napsc was gone make any difference.

so im going to borrow the one for the napsc when i have connected the other four in my  system,if it makes a difference i will buy that one too.

thats my plan.

I'm confused - what are the four things that you will power with your four Powerlines, if you don't put one on the napsc?

1. Cd player

2. Supercap

3. Power amp

4. ?     errrr....... Napsc.

I count four too but does he need one for the powerigel?

Don't think so. The Powerigel has it's own fixed power lead. No option to fit another power chord.

p.s. Given that he already has the Powerigel I would have looked to DR the 250 first. Maybe his dealer could have loaned him an amp while his 250's was being upgraded.

Maybe one of the Powerlines is a "Netzleiste Plus", which is a multi-socket extension fed by a Powerline.

I think it's someone else who has the hedgehog. I assume Ricard is getting a musicline mains block, which may or may not have its own mains lead. If it doesn't, that will doubtless be the answer.

I think it has a fixed lead much like the Powerigel. Maybe Ricard could explain why he needs the 4 Powelines.

Perhaps it's for the kettle, or a sandwich toaster.

Been there, done that.

It uses Powerline cable but is not fed by a Powerline so to speak.

Thanks Graham, I'll try to remember that.

A quick question for those that understand these things better than me.  How does a cable 'burn in'?  By this I mean what's the physical change in the wire?

I don't understand these things, but I guess it depends at what level you're looking for a physical change in the wire. Some would say that electrons better align during burn-in and ergo efficiency increases. So a further question might be what empirical evidence exists to support such a claim for this process?

Power lines carry alternating current (AC), so no, the electrons do not align (not that this is how electricity works anyway).  I am sure people experience positive effects which they attribute to 'burn in', I just wondered whether there was something physical happening that could explain this.

"i Think i will connect the powerlines to the cdx2,282,250.2 and supercap dr,the napsc will have to wait."

The only place to put a powerline on a 282 is the PSC so if you're getting 4 as stated?

What rack are you using at the moment? Hopefullt not a steel framed one. Whatever it is don't let the powerlines touch it when you set the system up. The diference is easily audible when playing solo piano music as an exessive ringing of the upper notes.

Yes, I suspect the OP has overlooked the fact that the 282 itself has no mains lead, as it takes its power from the Supercap and NAPSC.

I'm confused. OP is also ordering a Musicline, I thought they have captive connected power cables.  Maybe he meant Musicworks as that would suggest one of their blocks - with the fourth Powerline feeding it .

I'm not sure I care any more...

Posted on: 09 March 2016 by Ricard

thanks you all,i was wrong you were right!!!!!!!!   sorry!!

i just looked behind the 282 and realized that there wasnt any powerchord to it,the supercap is feeding the 282 with Power.

then i have 4 powerlines to connect them all,by all i mean cdx2,250,supercap and napsc.

sorry again fellows!! my mistake.

My set up is a 272/XPS-DR/200-DR and will be purchasing one pre-loved Powerline this weekend. As funds become more available, I'll probably get a 2nd one at one point. Seeing I will only have one, what would you recommend ? Use it on the amp or power supply ? I would think I should connect it to the XPS to improve the source, non ?

Posted on: 11 March 2016 by thebigfredc

Yep on the XPS if it was my money.
