naim powerline!

Posted by: Ricard on 06 March 2016

Hi!

im thinking of buying 4 powerlines to connect them with my cdx2,nac282,250.2 and my supercap dr.

my question is if its really a good and noticeable upgrade,i now have an powerigel thats suppluing the gear with Power.

i know its a lot of Money but i Think it will make my  naimgear sound even better, but i dont know for sure so i want to know if anyone on this forum has tried it,is it gonna make a sonical difference in my gear?

As the price of four powerlines is the same as the difference in price between a 282 and a 252 what would be the best upgrade?

Well not really. Unless you get 100% of the trade in value on a 282 I think you'll find that you choice between upgrading an existing 282 to a 252 vs. 4 PowerLines is not likely to happen.

You will also need a Supercap for the 252 if you don't already have one on the 282.

Just picked up 5 new PowerLines (ouch!!!)  for my music room. Will be installing them over the weekend... Luckily my long suffering dealer agreed to a trade in for my MIT cables...

Does this madness ever stop???

Of more relevance is being sure you prefer the 252 over the 282 as they have different presentations which tend to divide opinions on here.

Their is no need for the madness to stop....just need to have an update once they are all up and running.....that's my philosophy anyway !!!!

Power Lines installed - could not help myself. Sounds like black velvet now.

Starting to make my NDX/nDAC/XPS sound almost analogue... most intriguing.

My wife described it differently. At first she could not hear any significant difference. But after few minutes she said: sounds less mechanical, not as sharp as before.

With most upgrades, I think they're easier to evaluate by removing them after a while to see if you lose anything. So buying all the Powerlines you need, you can eliminate them one a at a time, and sell any that don't seem worthwhile. I, too, got carried away, and bought five. So far, I still have four of them.

Hi, I use 6 PLs, 2 on my 555PSs feeding NDS, and one each on 552 and 500. The others are on Supercap feeding Superline and Linngo. Overkill in certain ways but my oh my the music pours out!  My main point here is I tried faffing around with silver B*ssmans - it killed the musicality especially on the source. As three of my PLs were ex dem, I decided to open them up for a bit of maintenance and noticed one had a standard fuse (Naim use Marbo) so I replaced that with a positive outcome. Also on this PL, the fuse claws were very weak so after a gentle squeeze with a pair of pliers, polishing the replacement Marbo fuse end and popping back in, the musicality and enjoyment improved. A bit about the B*ssman sound - it was shrill and lifeless by comparison and the bass weight had all but disappeared.  Not sure if even fuses need burning in time!

And it's only just started. You may get a few ups and downs intially but give them a few weeks and you will find they really open up.  I'm running 4 and I'm very happy. I'd liken the increase in performance to at least adding the equivalent of a decent power supply.

Installed one PL on the XPS which is powering a 272 it seems to bring a slightly better more relaxed, open presentation with some added subtle details and better bass. Seems like a nice upgrade.

hi again!

now i have connected the powerlines to my naimgear and i have let it play on for about 200 hours.

at first i thought that this isnt the sound that i wanted for myself,it sounded all muddy and the soundimage wasnt so clear but the background was as black as it could get(very good)

after 200 hours i noticed that the sound improved very much, the muddines in the sound vanished and the soundimage improved a lot it was easy to pinpoint each and every instrument it sounds clearer, the bass is really exellent(so powerful)the mids and the highs now sound really really good.at  god recordings the depth in the soundimage is really astonishing.i Think that the Dynamics improved as well(the Dynamics was good earlier too)but now i can turn up the volume 2-3 notches more without experience any listeningfatigue at all.the listeningfatigue that i experiensed with my former cd5xs+hicap dr and now with my cdx2.2 has all vanished.i can now sit for hours and listen to the music.even the cds  with poor recordings. And that was really important too me.

very good!!!!  im really pleased now
