Turntable Tales - Radio 4

Posted by: JBGWild on 07 March 2016

Tomorrow and wednesday morning, BBC Radio 4 are broadcasting the above named programme at 1130 AM UK time. It's presented by Colleen Murphy of Classic Album Sundays. She will take us through the history of TTs including 'high-end'. The programmes will also be on iPlayer for 3 weeks after transmission. Could be interesting....

Nice article here.  Love seeing an expat American make good on the BBC!

It's on the BBC Radio 4 schedule that I'm looking at.

It's nice that all us sad old gits have got Colleen Murphy to drool over. Shame it's not on TV.

Brill programme - very interesting. 'The reader was Brian Protheroe' - which is weird, as Paradise had played 'Pinball' about an hour earlier.....

Great show. Should be 12 episodes of an hour each though.

All that programme told me was that a condition of G meant the record was probably unplayable. The phrase "the cost of everything and the value of nothing" came to mind.

I've just listened to the second episode. What a great programme, with some lovely fun stereo effects, and a very touching story at the end about an elderly gentleman who passed away while listening to 'the end of a perfect day' at an Antiques Roadshow.

Very good, even Fremer was very concise about vinyl ('it's nothing to do with warmth' etc), though talk of £100,000 turntables will only have confirmed the average R4 listener's suspicions that hifi is bonkers. Nice walk round Nottingham Analogue (I'd forgotten she uses one), though I could have done with less of the scratching and more of younger buyer's thoughts on the subject.
