Genesis Seconds Out

Posted by: AngloWelsh on 10 March 2016

Hi, Anybody know where I can find a decent quality recording of the above CD please. I have a 1984 (bloody hell is it that long ago!!) recording on Virgin but understand there are decent recordings to be had.

Thanks for your help.

I have the Charisma fatboy cd case version which I think sounds excellent...It may be the same as your Virgin one.

I have the original vinyl copy which is very good. Although not 180g vinyl, it is heavy and obviously pressed on virgin vinyl. I think I'll play that next.

Of the other Genesis albums on CD, most fans (me included) reckon the 'Definitive Edition Remasters' are the best. I have spotted this version of Seconds Out on the river for a very good price (£5.99 IIRC), but I believe it's increased recently. I'm not sure if Seconds Out was one of those remastered in 2007/8 but the studio remasters from that generation haven't been too well received.

BTW I do hope you've got the first live album, which captures perfectly the early Genesis line up in concert.

I have four different cd pressings of this album, the fat boy 1984, the definitive edition remaster from 1994 and the recent remaster and a Japanese first cd pressing.

My favourite is the definitive edition from 94

I've just checked the river and can see the Definitive Edition Remaster for a reasonable £12.99. The first live album (Genesis Live') is just £3.99 and is a MUST BUY if you don't already have it.

Interesting - I have the '94 remaster too but prefer the fatboy.

Silly question, but what is the fat boy? A label? A thick CD?

The old double cd case, it's fat

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!

One on a well known auction site just now.

I love those old fat boy jewel cases. Typically come with two booklets chock full of photos and credits, and will stand up on their own on a shelf. They don't make 'em like that anymore .

Thanks everyone for your replies, sorry for late response, out early this morning and not long home!  My recording is the Definitive Edition Remaster which sound better with my updated system than before. GraemH and CliveB, I remember the genesis live, had vinyl copy when I still had vinyl and LP12. Remember the chants of "Hogweed Hogweed" for the encore. Great music, really enjoy listening to it when I want a good blast!

This is great, I didn't catch on to Genesis in the States till Gabriel came out with the Car album. Recently added several CDs and couple albums. I read his Biography last year so now I'm splurging,  I'll get to Genesis in time.

From Trespass to Foxtrot - original 80's Virgin/Charisma

Lamb - 1994 remaster

Trick - original 80's Virgin/Charisma

Wind and Wuthering - 1994 remaster

Seconds Out - original fatboy 80's Virgin/Charisma

After that........... well, it was a different band so I wouldn't know............

Quite right, losing Peter Gabriel was a blow but when Steve Hackett went, that was it. Different band!!

I have the original vinyl 'side 4 missing label' version. Used to sound pretty good when I had an LP12 to play it on.

I have the original vinyl but  have Side 1 missing the label. Still sounds good on my LP12
