Unitiserve not connecting to network

Posted by: Mr Happy on 16 March 2016

I have borrowed a unitiserve from a friend for a few days. I have plugged it into my network switch but it doesnt show on the naim app nor the sky router.

I tried refreshing the devices list on the router but it doesnt show and ive tried restarting the nds, but this makes no difference either. Ive looked in the instructions and it says that from the factory its set to connect to any network, but once used you need to contact your dealer for help. I would love to try it in my system but I just cant see how to make it work.

Can anyone help please?

I also need to be able to reconnect it to my friends system for him in a couple of days, so I dont want to mess anything up for him.

Has your friend fixed the IP address on his Unitiserve? If so, I doubt your Streamer will see it.

It was remotley set up by naim, so not sure. How can I check, as the app wont connect as it cant see the unitiserve.

If the IP address was fixed, you probably can't tell without returning it to it's owners network, unless the person who set it up (probably Phil Harris) can remember what he did.

In the absence of any diagnosis of the problem, it might be worth doing a full restart of your network. That means turning off your router, and all devices that connect to it. Then restart the router. when it's fully up and running, start the US. Then do the same with your streamer, then your control app device.

If it still isn't visible, you could try using the Net Analyser iOS app as per Phil Harris's post here:

https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...pnp-discovery-issues

See if the US is visible through this, in which case it should have a little blue U against it, indicating that it is trying to broadcast using UPnP.

Finally, a much easier alternative if you have a spare SPDIF cable, just use that to connect it directly to your streamer. You'll need to use the N-Serve app to control it.

Thanks Chrissu, downloaded fing and it doesnt show on the network at all, so probably had ip address fixed. Ill have to give naim a ring in the morning to see if returning it to the universal ip address will still work for my friend when I return it after the weekend.

I think you'll need to download the SetIP tool from Naim's website to do this. Not sure how it works, as I'm a Mac user and it's a PC only thing. Probably less hassle to use an SPDIF cable?

Let's look at this differently. A good nas running minimserver sounds as good as, or better than, a UnitiServe, so there's nothing to gain from having it. Put it back in its box and enjoy the music from your nas.

HH, im happy with the synology but hearing both through his system  shows that they sound different. Through his system the unitiserve sounds much better on vocals but lacks the excitement of the synology sound. As my system is more revealing I wonder if the unitiserve will shine through or if I will still prefer the synology. At least this dem will put this dilemma to bed once and for all.

I have both minimserver and synology media server installed on my synology, and I prefer the synology server. I listened to both at length. The difference was small but the dsm server edged it. Im using an audioquest vodka from the switch to nds and a meicord from the synology to the switch. I found this to be a good balance in my system.

Chrissu, I really want to connect it via ethernet cable, so will call naim tomorrow. I use mac too so downloading their app wouldnt help, thats assuming I could use it anyway.

Now sorted.
