Muso - UPNP Woes

Posted by: Mike A on 19 March 2016

Earlier this week, I switched off my Uniti and Unitiserve to allow the carpet cleaner to safely move my Quadraspire rack. Having switched everything back on, these two devices still play nicely. However, in the kitchen I have a Muso which is fine playing iRadio (so the network connection must be ok) but won't play UPNP front the Unitiserve.

In tthe Naim app on my iPad I see:

Connecting

One track was added

Touching the bottom of the screen to go to the play queue, the time bar shows 00:00 at both ends then I see...

Cant play Track skipped, followed by

No track playing

Network details: Virgin Superhub to Powerline adapter. 2nd powerline adapter to switch. Uniti and Unitiserve connected to switch. Muso in kitchen connected tom3rd Powerline adapter.

Suggestions gratefully received!!

Did it work before the carpet cleaner showed up ?

it seems to me that the Muso is connected to the virgin  hub and not the   switch, but if the answer to the question above is yes, this is then unlikely if you have not changed setup since the carpet cleaner.

Yes- all was fine before I shut things down. Problem occurred when I switched things on again.

Yes - the Muso is connected to the Virgin hub. IRadio and Spotify are fine.

Muso finds and browses the Untiserve ok, including artwork. It's when I select play that things go awry!

I would shut down everything, wait 5 minutes, then restart the router, then the Unitiserve, then the Muso - in that order,

Okay that's scuppered my suggestion.

I do find Naim support very good and have even received the odd reply on a Saturday, have you emailed them?

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried a restart from the Virgin box onwards first thing this morning, but no luck. Pending any further forum suggestions, I'll see if an email to Naim helps.

When this occasionally happens with my streamer, switching it off and on again usually sorts it out.

The Virgin Superhub is a pile of dog doo; the best thing is to switch it to modem mode and add a decent router such as the Asus N66U.

I've often seen the Virgin router mentioned in these terms, but haven't previously had a problem that would point to the router. As I say, Iradio and Spotify are streaming to the Muso ok.

I'd like to add a public thank you to Steve Hopkins who resolved my issue today. The solution was an end to end restart - including the powerlines to resolve IP address problems. The standard of service and the sound quality remind me why I took the Naim road.

Have a great weekend!

.............and on a Saturday,

I can't understand why more people don't try the support email before coming on here (not in any way to downplay the wonderful advice I've got over the years here, but "support" is what it says on the tin).

Top guy Steve well done

I had Naim support in mind from the outset but wasn't sure what weekend coverage would be like. Steve's response was greatly appreciated ... But I'll admit my first reaction was to consult the community here, having seen the amazing support available from fellow Naim owners, after within minutes of a posting.
