Optimum order for plugs on a powerblock.

Posted by: Sloop John B on 19 March 2016

I know I read about this lately but search is not enabling me to find the post, which if my memory serves seemed to suggest a specific order for of plugs on a powerstrip, starting with poweramp and then maybe leaving an empty socket?

I'm going to be doing a bit of cable dressing in the next few weeks so I thought I'd try this put too, so suggestions or a link to the post would be welcome.

The suggested order was Amp, preamp, ...., source.  This was suggested by the folks at AVOptions.

I have no idea how important the skipping sockets thought is, but if you've got Powerlines it becomes obligate (in the US) due to the size of the Powergate plugs.

Thanks the mention of DB in the post you mentioned was the spark I needed to find the one I was thinking of -

Musicline suggests "(starting with the socket closest to the mains block captive lead): analogue source(s), digital source(s), preamplifier, power amplifier(s)".

Exactly the opposite of what AVoptions are suggesting... Who should we believe? I suppose we should trust our ears, but is the difference that significant?

Try it out each way and let your ears decide. There may well be no dicernable difference of course!

PS: Mine are random! On a £6 Maplins block on a normal ring main ... !

PPS: Just re-organised  - as power amp in the nearest socket to the wall, pre next, then DAC, then MAC, and last is the router ... No difference at all ...
