Naim app not seeing NAS suddenly, happened while playing music

Posted by: naimtheday on 25 March 2016

Hope someone can help. I have an NDX which streams from my NAS. I have rebooted all devices several times to no avail. Naim app on iPhone and iPad under UPNP see my laptop music but not the NAS. NAS is visible to the laptop. Recently subscribed to Tidal and phone and ipad see and work with it fine.

NDX recently upgraded to latest DAC so Tidal works and very pleased with it! Access to yet more music, what's not to like?

H E L P please

A few things to try

...... have you got it all on DHCP (automatic IP address assignment)   DHCP is best for most users as it avoids other black holes.

...... is it all ethernet wired   or wireless

Clear both the app cache's on both iPad/phones.

Do a complete system off & a systematic restart - switch it all off incl router & leave it off for at least 5 mins.  Start router first & let it complete its full restart cycle,  then LAN switch if you have one,  then the NAS & let it complete,  then NDX,  then the iPad/phone.

Thanks Mike,

DHCP is on (options are yes or no). I have rebooted all the devices including Iphone and ipad. Not sure how to clear their cache though. Any help appreciated.

The NDX is wired and is seeing my laptop again but not the NAS (Synology). I can access the data on the NAS from my laptop.

Tidal is working fine from my iPhone. BTW I play Tidal from the Naim app not from the Tidal interface as that plays direct to my phone or ipad.

I also tried a reset on the NDX. It was updated by Grahams when they fitted the new DAC too.

Fing suggests NAS is 100%

Clear the cache in iPad/phone app ........ Tool (gear wheel)  top right corner  ......  you are clearing two caches ........

> Settings > Input Settings > UPnP > Clear UPnP Cache > OK

> Settings > Other Settings > Clear Image Cache > OK

Re the reboot - its important you reboot in the order I show in my post as this clears any system confusion that might not clear properly with individual & random restarts

Mike, thanks for this really useful tip, I've often wondered if there was a preferred power up process for the IT side of our hifi set ups.

Caches cleared, all devices turned off for 5 minutes and restarted as follows, router   -----   ready, switch    ------ ready, NAS on    ------ ready, NDX on, reset all to defaults etc, seeing my laptop in UPnP but still not the NAS.

I will explore the Synology forums in case I can gleam anything there, otherwise no joy. I will update presently, hopefully to report success, otherwise that the NAS didn't fly very well!

For what it is worth I updated the Diskstation software from 5 to 6, turned the UPnP off and back on again and now all is restored. Many thanks to Mike B as I couldn't have reset things correctly without his input. Muchos gracias

Ahh ## I  forgot that  .......  I had the DSM-6 auto-update yesterday,  but I got straight into the webpage to have a look around & spotted that Media Server needed a manual update,  so that might be it.   My system ran perfectly afterwards,  (I note the UPnP is noticeably faster with iOS which is nice)
