I went from original gray Burndies on the CDS, 52 and Snaxo, to the original black ones, to the SXPS one on the CDP. The really, REALLY big leap was from the gray to the black....the CDS1 lost most of its colorations and gained much transparency.
The effect of gray to black on the 52 was not quite as pronounced. The S-XPS Burndy that followed gave a cleaner and more dynamic sound with a quieter background, but didn't seem to change the tonality as much as the gray to black switch did.
I think it may only be a matter of time before some 'Reference' series Burndies appear. It was of course only a matter of a few decades before the NACA5 was toppled by the SL. And the Burndies date back to the early 1990s with the CDS1 and 52.
ISTR the S-XPS had a different internal arrangement of the conductors internally, better separating the hot from the earth wires, but the number of wires were not changed.
