Update metadata

Posted by: robgr on 26 March 2016

I am uisng a NAC-N 272 and am streaming via MinimServer on a QNAP NAS

What is the best utility that would assist with updating metadata, missing artwork etc?

I have been looking at MediaMonkey but it is showing read only when looking at Media Servers\MinimServer folders

I noticed that the NAS folders are read only so I changed them via Windows folder properties, recheced and there back to read only

What am I missing, what is the best way to approach this, how might I change the pernissions for the NAS folders?

I use dbpoweramp, which works really well and is easy to use.

Hi, I use Metadatics, which works well, though I have tried anything else. I too use a QNAP.

Thank you both, I do use dbpoweramp but I don't believe this can auto-tag (which is what I really want)

I am WIndows based so Metadatics is not an option, I don't know if it supports auto-taggiong though

MediaMonkeydoes have auto-tagging features but I can't currently get around the read-only issue

I must be missing something on permissions related, I suspect on the NAS

I can change the permissions via Windows but it just doesn't stick, most odd!

Tagscanner does it on PC does it brilliantly, it's free too.  Can't recommend it enough and he updates it regularly - well worth a donation if you do use it

Have a look on mp3tag. It has all you need.

dBpoweramp. Robust, reliable and easy to use. It will do other things besides. And it does them well.

+1 for dbpoweramp and it runs on both Windows and OSX

I highly highly recommend editing metadata BEFORE moving files to the server. It's much easier to get it right on the server by having the server index the properly-tagged files than by editing the tags and hoping the server picks up the changes.  Some servers are better at this than others, but in all respects I think that the best practice is to do the edits outside of the server environment if possible.
