Yehudi Menuhin Remasters Worthwhile

Posted by: Bert Schurink on 29 March 2016

At Qobuz they offer now at quite attractive prices 20 remasters in high res. So my question is anybody having an opinion about the fact if it's worthwhile or not, as in some cases the prices are as low as 3 euros - and the impression is given that the price will go up in the next days (pre-order advantage).  I ask the question as I can't hear the albums yet.

Try one, rather than many. Decide if it is suitable.

Just tuppence worth of advice.

Best wishes from George

I just bought the 20 offered - I could listen into some off them. While some recordings are very old and sound typically old (a bit thin sound), some others sounded wonderful. For 20 albums less then 65 euros on Qobuz, a steal.

I will download them tomorrow and report back on how they sound on my system over the weekend.

Blimey, Bert, you do buy a lot of music!! How do you find the time to listen to all your new acquisitions?

Hi,

You are right and perhaps I am sometimes a little bit over the top in what I am collecting. In some cases it has been a catchup of music I wanted to have overall and knew already. In some cases it's completely new and I find myself sometimes losing track of what I have.

Soon I will reduce my buys and only get about 4-6 albums a month new. This will enable me to also better listen into my back-catalog.

The scary statistic is that I would need something like two year of 10 hours a day every day listening to get completely through my collection.

That is not a scary thought, that is heaven.   Enjoy as much and for as long as you desire and are able.  Hopefully there are days in your future when you could listen 10 hours a day if you chose to, most any time you wished.  I have found that scenario to be rather pleasant for the past couple years.  regards, Jeff A
