Starting all over again - Unitiqute2 or Nait5si

Posted by: Belfast Taxman on 03 April 2016

After some serious upgrading, I have a mid- level Marantz CD player and a pair of Linn Kan's available to give to my son to get him started on the serious hi fi chain. I have the choice of ex- demo Nait 5si or Unitiqute 2. The latter has obvious Streaming/Internet radio possibilities, but is the amplification up to the job, or would the 5si blow it away in that respect? I have to say that my son is a lot more PC able than I am and I think streaming and all it involves would be easily achievable for him. In fact now I think about it, maybe he could rip and store all my cd's for me = Result. But the question still stands - is the amp capability of the U2 good enough, say, for example, he wanted to get more demanding speakers?

Go for the UQ2. It is extremely capable and streaming is where young people get their music these days, so the UQ2 will be a fascinating introduction for him to how much better than Sonos it is possible to get.

Uniti qute 2 for sure it is better than marantz CD player and nait

If I were starting from zero today that's what I would buy

The UQ2 does not really do that well with Kans. My UQ2 did extremely well with SL2's for a few years, but does a much less stellar job with Kans now. I'd either look for a better amp/source, or replace the Kans with something else entirely.

I would go for the UQ and get some used Rega standmounts to go with it -- I heard the UQ and Rega RS1 speakers not too long ago and it did the business, and then some.

Last summer we bought a UQ2 Bluetooth, a pair of Crimson Electronics speaker cables, and a pair of Blumenstein Audio Thrashers, which are made to order and shipped customer direct.  The Thrashers are no longer on Mr. B's site but he might hook you up.  Peter S @ Venice Audio recommended this budget rig for my son's dorm room and he could not have been more correct.  The Bluetooth is lossless, very convenient, and a worthy upgrade.   I could live with this as my only system.    We had the original Nait 5i  and it was lame by comparison into NSats.
