qb and Mu-so sync problems
Posted by: Salvee on 22 April 2016
I already own a Mu-so, I just purchased a qb to use as additional speaker in the same room.
Problem 1: When listening to Naim iRadio music levels change and drop out often, maybe once a minute. Both devices are up to date with firmware.
Same problem when using Spotify, through the Naim app.
Any suggestions will be appreciated: I have 7 more days until I can return the qb as a "unsatisfied purchase" please try to answer ASAP Thanks.
Problem 2: When listening to Spotify or Pandora direct from the Spotify or Pandora app you can not select more than one device to listen too.
That is the whole reason I bought the qb. From my research through this forum and the internet "It can't be done". Someone please confirm or advise how to accomplish this
I need to return the qb if I am right with the next 7 days. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide
Sal
The dropouts are likely to be a network issue. Are you using WiFi?
I can't think of any workaround to stream from an iOS device to more than one device. It can be done from a Mac or Windows computer using Airfoil. See this recent thread:

I'm curious, why would you want 2 Musos in the same room?
Can't you multi room them? So in the Naim app, you go to the now playing screen on one of them and select multi room and then select your other device?

Yes. Select the "room" in the Naim app for the Mu-so to be used as Master that is playing the iRadio station or Spotify, touch the bar at the bottom to bring up the now-playing screen, touch the four square symbol to the right of the volume bar, select the other Mu-so.
Nice that it works with Spotify.
A Muso and a Qb in the same room is never going to be ideal with two left channels and two right. I'd suggest getting a Qute and some speakers for a 'proper' system.

I have a good router an ASUS RT-AC66U dual band 802.11AC Gigabit Router. It is located next to the Mu-so and the Qb is 30 feet away. Do you know of or a link of any settings and parameters to check or change in the router such a filtering, other settings to lock in the signal. Prior to adding the Qb the Mu-so never dropped out do to WiFi issues. That's why I'm suspect or the Naim syncing ability.
It is in a large room with 20 foot high ceilings and vaults so I have chose to have units in the same room so sound will be coming from two directions. Plus it's marketed as syncing note for note with each other.
David,
Yes I can multi room Naim app links such as Spotify and iRadio and just signed up for Tidal too. But what I was asking was playing Pandora in particular through both devices.

Sal
How are you playing Pandora through one of the Mu-sos?

The difference with Spotify is that the Mu-sos implement Spotify Connect. They know nothing about Pandora. Are you playing Pandora to one device by AirPlay for example? Multiroom is not supported for AirPlay.
The Mu-so does allow you to play directly from an iPad or iPhone into the USB input and this is supported for Multiroom. It works with apps like BBC iPlayer Radio for example but you would have to try it to see if the Pandora developers allow it. The iDevice will show the output as going to the dock connector.
This is why I asked how you are playing Pandora through the Mu-so currently.
The ASUS RT-AC66U dual band 802.11AC Wi-Fi base station will still only be connecting over 802.11g by the way as that is all that the Mu-sos support. If it is next to the original Mu-so, do you have it connected by Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi?

Hi Sal
while you are thinking about your options, another one to think about is Chromecast Audio https://www.google.com/intl/en...chromecast/speakers/ which is supported by the Pandora App and allows its own Multi Room.
Not tried it myself with Pandora but is advertised as such. Downside is possible confusion with having more than one way to do Multi Room.

Just double-checked at https://help.pandora.com/custo...andora-on-chromecast But note they do not specifically include Chromecast Audio. Anyone out there tried it?
By the way, the Chromecast Audio devices do support dual-band 802.11ac

NONAME,
My WiFi dropping issue, I will update firmware in the router and yes will plug in Ethernet cable to Mu-so. I also may experiment with some of these settings in the router. got the ideas from the google Chromecast site.
- Enable: Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), multicast, Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)
- Disable: AP/client isolation, virtual private networks (VPNs), proxy servers, IGMP Proxy
We had been listening to Pandora via Bluetooth but was hoping for a way to multi WiFi. Thanks for the Google Chromecast link, I never knew this device existed, that may be the way to go for us.
Thank you all again for your help,
Sal
I returned the Qb to the store. The techs experimented with it and found the same problem: which is whatever unit you make as your slave device it will drop out at least once every 2 minutes or so. They said they called Naim and were told that the Qb has firmware version 1.4.0 and the Mu-so has firmware version 1.3.0.
I explained to them that Version 1.3.0 is the most current available. So if this is true then I will need version 1.4.0 or newer. Does anybody know if its available? And does it fix this problem.
How can I pass this question on to Naim support also?
Thanks,
Sal
Hi Sal
Naim say they don't routinely read everything in the forum so it's best to go direct to them or a dealer if you have a problem that forum members can't immediately solve. There is a "sticky" in the top few topics in the audio streaming room if the forum and this gives you the phone number and email address for Naim technical support at Salisbury. They provide a first rate service so that should be your next move I suggest.

Incidently, Resound don't tell customers this, but my audiologist asked them and showed me the reply, the bass and treble controls change all of the settings below and above 1kHz respectively in 1dB steps simultaneously. So these are not the same as conventional tone controls. And you can tame an over-bright upper midrange sound without killing the highest frequencies.
