Audirvana

Posted by: Colin Stump on 23 April 2016

First posting on this forum, so forgive me if anyone has asked about this before. I have installed Audirvana on my Mac (running OS X Yosemite) and also A+ Remote on my iPhone. The main objective was to stream selected files from iTunes on to my MuSo and a Qb. It works fine, except for one thing: if I select both units to stream music simultaneously to both, the music only comes through on the Qb and the main Mu-So stays silent.

Any help gratefully received!

Have you tried multiroom mode ? Set the Qb as master and then activate the mu-so through the multiroom icon (bottom right of screen).

Make sure the multiroom "input" is activated on both units.

In case you can't find the multi room icon, it's on the "now playing" screen in the Naim app on your iPhone, that is tap on the bottom of the screen when you have selected an input. As Jan-Erik says it's the bottom right of the screen and its four squares in a square.  The multi-room mode only works on digital inputs so the icon only appears on digital inputs by the way.

Thank you Jan-Erik and David. I have set both units to be recognised in 'Preferences' in the Audirvana software on my Mac, but on starting the playback it only drives sound from the Qb. If I then look at the Naim app on my iPhone, it reads 'AirPlay' on the screen but doesn't show the track name or any detail, and the multi-room icon is not available (I have seen this icon when using Naim though, so I know it's there!). If I uncheck the Qb in presences, the music then starts to play in the Mu-So, si it simply doesn't want to drive both units! There doesn't appear to be any means of managing outputs to specific speakers on the A+ app either. A mystery...!

I don't think you can multi room AirPlay, which seems to be what you are finding too. So what you need to do is to connect your Mac to one of the streamers another way, for example a cable to one of the digital inputs on the Qb and then multi room should work.

Yes, I suspect your problem has nothing to do with Naim, and is an Airplay issue, which doesn't like multi-room. Have a look at 'Airfoil' (third party Mac software), which I believe solves the problem, although I haven't tried it.

Ok, thanks David and Solid Air. Better move on then! Thanks goodness for the seamless Naim/Tidal interface!

I have a Mac, Audirvana, a muso and a Qb.  I use Airfoil to get multiroom audio over airplay.  It works perfectly.

Airfoil works really well. Bought just now for £25. Happy days!
