Naim Unitiqute 2

Hi All,

As mentioned in a previous post, I'm currently using a U2, Rega RP3 and Guru Junior's. Is there a limit or ceiling point in terms of turntables suitable with the UQ2?

Both the Michell and Rega are splendid looking things! Very avant garde. You're really tempting me to upgrade my trusty but plain RP3 (but I really don't use it enough to justify that).

My personal view, without doing the requisite listening, is that going above an RP6 with a UQ2 will probably run into diminishing returns, but these turntables will still sound great and look amazing. The real problem is that in six months you'll be upgrading the UQ2!

RP8, Apheta 2, Aria, 272, 250 . . . stunning!

Rega does make good turntables - RP6 / Exact II is very good indeed

Completely agree! Definitely don't want to upgrade UQ2, I know it's not the most exotic Naim system, but each day I use it, I'm amazed by what this little thing does with my gurus.

The most important thing is that you enjoy your music! As for the system - it's just a means to an end, rather than 'an end' itself.

I also like my UnitiQute2!!!!

On the turntable front - think long-term, say next 10 years. And get one that can see you through that journey.

I also use a 2M Blue with my Qute.  It's a nice combo (mine is on a VPI Traveler ~RP6).

I agree moving to a RP6 is not enough of a jump.  Good luck.  In my above post I meant that I'd love to have a Exact Cart to try.  My understanding is that Rega carts are more Naim- groove and boogie factor and I feel that they 2Ms are a bit dry.  Personally I'm considering a Dynavector 10x5 when the money falls from the sky.

Good Luck again.

Still pondering over my demo & adding up the numbers, to get the best out of the RP8 including cart & phono stage would be the best part of £3000.00.

At this moment that's beyond me. I think being sensible and rational, I will arrange for a demo at home of the RP6 at home with an appropriate cartridge.

Rega is a bit like NAIM - works best with other Rega bits.

My recommendation, based on experience is: Rega RP6 / Exact II (factory fitted) with Rega Fono MM.

I researched the RP3 and RP6 heavily.  I read almost anything that someone would print about it.  Many people were saying that a modified RP3 was every bit the equal of the RP6.  Throw the Exact and a precision subplatter on there and you'll have the RP6.  Just search around on the net.  Here in the US there is a company called Groove tracer with a great following.  I'm sure there are others.

Again good luck with your decision.

many people saying is not your ears.

If you can't listen I'd always follow the unmodified route.

Agree to the above! I once owned  Rega P9 that the previous owner had modified in terms of arm cable, counterweight etc from a well known 3rd party. I felt the player was really poor at conveying the timing of the music, so took it to my dealer 'Signals' where an RP3 duly wiped the floor with it in all the important areas.

HI Guy's

I'd thought I'd give an update on my excursions, I went back to my dealer with the idea of settling for an RP6 as the RP8 would be beyond me. I initially purchased my RP3 from him in the first instance, within a few weeks of that the new planar 3 was released which I wasn't happy about. We have a very good relationship so he's agreed to take my RP3 back for as close to what I'd paid for it, which I'm very happy.

He also said he would do me a good deal on a red RP6 which they'd recently opened for demonstration. Apparently Rega have slightly changed the  finish on the red, earlier editions were slightly more orangey.

As I was set to pull the trigger, he pre warned me before I take any decision, by the end of the year there will be a new RP6. I have a deposit of £100 with them, so need to make so need to take some sort of decision.

I would like to think about it over the weekend and get this concluded by Monday as it's becoming a little headache.

My question is; Am I better going for new P3 with a power supply or sticking with RP6? Monetary terms the difference is the latter option being £100 more than the RP3

I'd say - RP6 with Exact II is the one.

There is a clear improvement as one progresses up the range.

As to a new model - there is always going to be a new model around the corner. So don't gt sucked into this endless spiral. This way you can bargain harder for the existing one

By all reports the RP6 is an excellent table and a clear upgrade over the RP3 in their stock form.  Since he is taking the RP3 back for almost what you paid it really is a no brainer.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the advice given to me on this forum.

I've now placed a deposit on an RP8 without cartridge, when payday arrives for me in a couple of weeks, I will collect. Can't wait!

I thought about day and night literally, getting the RP6 would be false economy for me as I'd only want an RP8 in the long run.

The only issue would be a cartridge to use for now. As and when funds permit, I would upgrade that and the phono stage to something more suitable.

I have a Graham Slee Gran amp 2 , would this be okay to start?

Thanks
