MuSo Playlists with USB Stick

Posted by: juanito on 12 May 2016

I usually stream music from a NAS to an ND5 XS, but have just bought a MuSo for the summer house.

I made a backup from the NAS to a USB stick and took it with me to play on the MuSo.

As far as I can see, I can play music in order or at random from the USB stick, but I cannot find a way to make a playlist for the USB stick on the Naim App and the MuSo manual does not mention playlists.

Is it possible to make playlists for music on a USB stick using the Naim App or, failing that, make a playlist with some other software, copy it to the USB stick and use that?

I think the short answer is no. If you want to use playlists, you need to use the UPnP input. I guess the challenge is how to get a network connection to your summerhouse? Alternatively, you could play from a portable device over Airplay or Bluetooth. That would mean using something like iTunes on an iOS device, creating playlists on that.

I make playlists on a USB stick for use in my car with MediaMonkey.

I create playlists on my NAS (for my NDX and Arcam system) and then when I want to copy to the USB stick I simply copy the playlist. This then copies all of the music and creates a seperate playlist folder. It works perfectly.

The summer house is in a different country and has a network connection, but I don't really want to fork out for another NAS to stream.

I can connect to the MuSo with my iPhone and use Airplay/Bluetooth, but I don't really want to load 7,500+ tracks onto my iPhone.

I created an m3u playlist, which the Naim App displays, but when I click on the playlist music starts, but not from the playlist...

I created the playlist in Linux, perhaps the Naim App required a windows folder/file format?

At present the playlist is in the format /music/artist/album/track.flac, do the "/" have to become "\" or similar?

What does a sample line in your playlist look like - I wonder if this is a Linux vs Windows thing?

The playlists on the NAS are in Linux format and the ones on the USB are in Windows format. All handled automatically.

My weekend home is also in another country and I did buy a second NAS. The two stay in sync automatically even if the initial sync ran for some days

Thanks - it would help me a lot if you could copy & paste a couple of lines from the playlist on the USB stick in windows format

Still struggling with this.

From linux, the USB stick looks like this

/music

playlist.m3u

An example of one line from playlist.m3u in linux format looks like:

music/Adele/21/01.Rolling_in_the_Deep.flac

I changed it to windows format:

music\Adele\21\01.Rolling_in_the_Deep.flac

..but the result is the same - instead of playing something from the playlist, the MuSo either plays the very first track on the USB stick (sorted alphabetically) or seemingly a random track, neither of which are on the playlist.

Does the MuSo need a special first line in the playlist file? Does it require the track location to be in some kind of special format?

For the record - as per Naim support, the MuSo does not support playlists on USB sticks.
