Chromcast & Uniti

Posted by: Ptangyang on 14 May 2016

Hi all

Am after a little bit of noob advice. Is it possible to stream audio from my laptop/mobile device to my Uniti using Chromecast? The Chromecast connection is HDMI so I guess I'm asking is there a way of connecting HDMI to any of the inputs on the Uniti.

Thanks, any help appreciated.

I think you need an hdmi to spdif converter that is extracting the audio signal from the hdmi protocol. Or you take the chromecast audio that offers spdif out.

Yes, you can do this. Just use an optical lead.

I believe only the Chromecast Audio has optical out, the 'normal' one designed for TV only has HDMI.

Ah, I see. I used the audio version with an optical lead. It sounded awful, so I sold it.

Thanks all. Word of warning, frustratingly you can't stream from iTunes, which was the whole point. Back to the drawing board!

You need to run UPnP server software on your computer to play music stored on it on a Naim streamer. This will be able to see your iTunes library or other stored music, and serve it over your (preferably wired) network to the Uniti.
