Album art problem in n-stream

Posted by: Augusto Giusti on 22 June 2011

Dear all,

Anyone having problems with album art in the n-stream app? My app just doesn't show any art but the UPnP software logo instead.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Augusto

Apparently there are none for Mac OS that work well.  Do you have a spare PC laying around???  you can build one up or buy one online for pennies.  Jam it in the closet and you will have ALLLLLLLLL the album art you want.

Agreed - get a cheap PC without Windows on it as you that's a waste of money, given you simply want to delete it. Then install Vortexbox. This will serve music perfectly to your Naim kit including artwork and it makes the tea. (OK I lied about the last bit, but everything else just works).

Then sir, you are indeed a lucky man; I have to use it, in between reboots, for work every day.

It is worse than XP. Whatever happened to OS2?

We are the Vortexbox appreciation Society (even if their forum members doubt the NDX could sound better than a Logitech Transporter).

Thankfully as I use iTunes for managing files I can easily get it to embed artwork at 300 x 300 dpi at the mere click of an Applescript - it will also find tracks without artwork and create folder.jpg files and make the tea (OK I lied about the last bit, but the rest is true).

By the way why do people use FLAC if WAV sounds better?

Much as like the Mac Mini for direct connection through optical to a DAC,

I have to admit it is not my first choice if creating a UPnP server is the aim.

Dear James N,

Thanks very much for your advice.  The Image Fetch program certainly works like a breeze.  You certainly save me from spending hours in fetching for the album art all over again.

It is good to have experts like you in this forum.  I benefited a lot by visiting this site (now almost on a daily basis).  Thanks a lot again.

I was troubleshooting why n-stream couldn't display the album art and after writing to Naim support, Steve suggested that I should try looking at how my upnp server are configured. True enough, my synology DS712 did not have the display of album art enabled.

For those who are on synology, go to the setup page and it is under:

Media Server -> Browsing Settings -> [Enable] Set images with the following filenames as music/video cover

Have fun!

Thanks engjoo!

I had the same 'problem' with my DS212j. It works much nicer now :-)

Hello streamers.

I have been reading the above comments. Thank heavens I have not gone with this streaming thing. I am so pleased that I do not need to be computer literate to enjoy listening to music. Part of enjoying music in my opinion is to actually hold the  vinyl LP or CD and enjoy the art work and not seeng a copy on a little screen! I have hundreds of valued LPs and putting these on my LP12  make listening to my Naim Active system such a pleasure. Cds on my CDS3 sound good also.

I suppose I am a bit old-fasioned but there is enough music on CD/vinyl to keep me happy without having to transfer it to another format..

Enjoy.

I note your points on enjoying the music, but think you are missing an opportunity.

Streaming does not have to be exclusive, you can still enjoy the LP12, etc.

I have used the screen data and metadata to much more benefit. When listening to an album, read the dat showing who is playing or contributing to the music, then click on them and get links to their other albums, to further enjoy their contributions.

This facility has introduced me to many new bands and musicians, and has increased myknowledge of different genre.

In short in increases the music world available to you and amplifies your enjoyment

+1

Many of us streamers still love vinyl - I have a 4 component LP12 based system as well as a Superuniti. I think it is cds that are under threat from streaming. The artwork is too small - you can get more and better sized info on a screen, also the sound is better £ for £,  and it opens up new ways of enjoying your music.

Streaming is also very much easier to set up and use than some threads on here might lead you to believe.

I have the 212j with DMS 4.0, but am running a Mac.  I can't figure out how to do this from the control panel (using Synology Assistant).  Can anyone help?

Obsessed1,

I am using a Mac.  I log into the Synology with the web browser. Then click on the icon on the top left corner, beside the icon for Quick Start.  You should see Media Serve.  Click on that.

That's got it.  Thanks.
