Glasto on the BBC ?

Posted by: Gale 401 on 25 June 2011

I have seen two bands today.

One i have heard off but have never listened to called the Kills.

They will be getting a listen.

The one i have never heard of was Warpaint.

What a great all women band.

A female Cure.

They were brilliant imo.

Has anyone seen anything new to them that they liked?

The Friendly Fires did it for me last year,But this year they have gone up a few inches to another level imo.

Brilliant set.

Elbow as brilliant as ever.  Coldplay have forced me back back on my laptop - not special at all.

You love them or Hate them?

They are like Marmite.

The Coldplay are putting on a great show.

As i posted this Chris fooked up and started again.

Brilliant.

Sorry if its just me?

But going back over the years on this forum,

Their  always used to be a great bit of chat between members when Glasto was on?

How things have changed?

I dont think  even Paul Simon will change things when he plays tomorrow?

Its sad how this place has changed in more ways than one.

Is it all down to Hoop.la?

Not even sure Paul Simon is being televised?  It'll take us weeks to watch all the Glasto we record here.  Not sure this year is sone of the finest but still very worth watching.

I <3 iPlayer!

Talking of Marmite, my favourite has been Morrissey so far. A very haunting version of 'Meat is Murder' I thought. Even though Saturday's Guardian gave him 3/5 as opposed to 5/5 for U2. This is, however, the same newspaper that recently asked the questions 'Can Sarah Brown save Labour?' and 'Are cleavages going out of fashion?'.

The snippets of Metronomy and Anna Calvi (who, along with Emmy The Great(est), have released two of my favourite albums of this year so far) that were shown seemed pretty fine to me as well.

Is Fearne Cotton even a human being?

Enjoyed Paul Simon, even with a gruff voice. Lovely performance, great band, was that Stevie Gadd on drums? I couldn't tell, damn good whoever it was, but then they would have to be.

Haven't enjoyed what else I have seen though. Missed Saturday as I was away. On Friday I didn't enjoy U2, glad I saw them on ZOO TV, many years ago.

My partner (who is a Smiths fan) did enjoy Morrissey, but felt it lacked the punch of The Smiths, a bit ploddy, but thought he still has it, great voice and presence on stage.

Mostly I think the music I like these days isn't the sort of thing that gets played at Glastonbury, no problem, I just go to the concerts I like, and don't bother with the big festivals.

My years were 99 & 2000, the first of which was fantastic, the second very patchy with a bad vibe. It may yet swing back around, I liked the look of the spirit of '71 stage, but that wasn't going to get covered by the BBC. Pity 'The Glade' disappeared.

I quite enjoyed Paul Simon and Don Maclean (didn't he used to be on Crackerjack) and the snippets of Laura Mauling and Anna Calvi I managed to see. Some of the smaller bands were interesting, as is always the case. I think there was some good music around, but the BBC, without the inspiration of John Peel, missed it.

The headliners were as dull as ditch water though.  In fairness a corporate show-biz event is never going to be for me. I know some people like raising their arms in the air, jumping up and down throughout a song, sitting on the shoulders of others for no apparent reason unless it is to annoy the poor punter unlucky enough to be behind them and committing the eighth deadly sin: synchronised hand-clapping. It ended with a whimper with the X-Factor style closing show.

Hopefully, I have now secured a position next to Rick Wakeman on grumpy old men.

Bring back Hawkwind

All the best, Guy

Sorry I seem to have lost the links to U2, Coldplay and Boyance - I think Net Nanny plus removed them - we all have something to be grateful for.

I beg to differ, Hard Fi are very good indeed!

I thought TV On The Radio were very very good .

They always are though.

Found no redeeming features in either Beyonce or that "Cee-Lo" idiot. What the hell was that? Not music. At least the talentless scum that was the black-eyed peas didn't rise from the muck to assault our senses with their dross.

I enjoyed Beyonce and Kool and the Gang. And I never thought I would say that.

Seconded about Warpaint. Also Everything Everything, a sort of 21st century XTC (though not sure about the singer's falsetto); the Pierces; Mumford and Sons showed a lot of passion; Paul Simon was very good indeed; Morrissey sounded great for a bit but I got bored; Bellowhead impressive as usual. Laura Marling upping her game and sounding great.

I must visit here more frequently. If you liked the sound of The Kills then their best album by far is their first "Keep On Your Mean Side" an excellent album.

Alsison Mosshart also teamed up with Jack White in The Dead Weather more recently although that has now finished. Must admit I did not see Know The Kills were at Glasto otherwise I would have recorded it. I thought the whole line up was boring and gave it a miss this year.
