Unitiserve - General problems/issues

Posted by: AKD on 01 July 2011

My unitiserve is skippin/jumping within tracks - both on Local Drive & NAS drive. Also, it won't play CD direct or Rip CD.

I've re-boot, reload service pack 2 etc without solution. I am taking it to the dealer/naim.

The player is about 7 months old and has worked flawlessly until now.

Anyone with similar problems or am I alone?

Do you use bt hub router or switch? Also, is your US -SSD or -HD.

Akd.

I have a WNDR 3700 Router (separate modem) and use a zyxel switch and Readynas Duo NAS. I have the SSD version.

I have some chokes to reduce RF per Simon and use a wired connection. Nothing else that I can think of, but ndac with 555PS is something to aspire too.

I'm glad a lot of folk who have HDXs an USs do not have problems and are very happy with them. Apologies for my earlier rant.

All the best, Guy

PS Gerry did you have Honda by any chance; I got a copy of Spirit's 12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus stuck in my old one's CD player - don't have the Honda any more, but I did get another copy of 12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus.

Hi Guy,

No it was a BMW, I was not over impressed with the car either. 12 dreams is a brilliant album by the way.

Best regards

Gerry

Guido and others,

I sometimes think that you underestimate the diversity of folks on this forum. By which I mean their levels of IT proficiency. For many, like me, the US has been and is a wonderfully easy-to-use product with which to explore digital hi-fi audio, and I am very happy with it. Expensive, yes. But Apple figured out long ago that simplicity and ease of use can command a premium price.

When I read some of the posts on here about meta data, and tagging and transcoding etc., I have no idea what the post is about. For folks who are mote IT literate than me, this is fine. It's just not for me.

Rant over. Feedback welcome, as ever.

Cheers, Paul

Thanks PBenny,

I am aware that, Naim provides excellent support but all I'm seeking is second opinion or shared experience. So that, one can logically solve the problem plaguing my US...

Aid,
Thanks - cant really comment on your issues, since fotunately I haven't experienced anything similar. But what I have experienced is top quality Naim support. I had problems getting my NAS to back up the US ( nothing to do with a fault on the Naim), and within a day phil Harris at naim had logged into my machine remotely to set it all up. Brilliant. But in your case it sounds like an electro/ mechanical glitch.  So why not return it to Naim to fix ?

Hi Paul

I'm a big Apple fan and agree with you. You shouldn't have to care about how computers and networks work to play your music. This is equally true of the Vortexbox as the Naim US. I know Naim is a great company and makes great products. I use lots of them.

The advantage of the Vortexbox is you can tweak things if you want - you don't have to. The advantage of the Naim is it is Naim and Phil Harris and his colleagues provide superb support. Both products when working as intended are on a par as music players.

It is reading a forum too much that made me comment the way I did. It seemed people were having problems and I just kept thinking that shouldn't be. I'm sure Naim don't want it to be the case either. I just wondered if they were creating problems for themselves by taking on too much.

However, if the US works for you then that is great - all that really matters is people are happy with their purchases.

All the best, Guy
