Dsp function in cd rippers

Posted by: RM on 03 July 2011

Hi guys

I am currently ripping my cd collection for use with my synology ds211j Nas. I am using dbpowerap - which has dsp functionality that allows cd files to be ripped up to 24bit / 96 kHz files for use with my naim uniti. My Question is is it worth ripping CDs into 24 bit files as the original files are 16 bit? Thanks a lot

Kind regards

Rohit

Why not give it a try and rip an album to 24 bits and a second time to 16 bit files and have a listen afterwards?

Regards,

Michel

If it sounds better to you then fine, if not then that is an awful lot of extra storage you are going to use up for your CDs

The source is only 16/44.1, the extra data comes from some form of interpolation and transformation to fill in the gaps. So it comes down to if the dsp fill in the gap better or the naim hardware fill in the gap better. Why not rip a disc or 2 in both format to decide before proceeding......
