CD player for Superuniti?

Would a CDX2 be too much CD player for a SU?
Thanks for your thoughts.

There have been a lot of posts about these two options, which a search will reveal - I think there is a discussion of best three box option somewhere. I'm not sure a discussion of their relative merits on this thread helps J's dilemma.

Which brings me to a question that someone may offer some advice on......
1. Add a used 250.2 to my SU, then swap out the SU for a 272(adding a ripper later).
2. Add an NDX to SU, then swap out SU for SN2(adding a ripper later).
End game...
1. 272/250(250 would be a better amp than SN2 but NDX better streamer than 272).
2. NDX/SN2( was happy with the SN2 and no real desire to change/upgrade)and I'm sure the NDX would be better than HDX as a network player getting me back to where I was(if not better).
For/ against either option?
Ray, to my ears the NDX was a clear winner over the 272 in the various systems I listened to. If I had chosen a 272, I'd have added a 250DR, as it is clearly much better than a 200DR. But for me, slumming it with a mere 200DR is worth it as it means I can put my cash into the better source. My profile shows a slightly odd looking setup at the moment, NDX/Superuniti/200DR. The final upgrade stage will be to swap the SU for a 282. Still only 3 boxes, whereas with a 250 I'd have needed a separate PSU for the pre.
If my limit was 2 boxes rather than 3, I'd have gone for NDX/Supernait. If I hadn't taken the time to listen to these options with the help of my very patient dealer, I might have ended up with 272/250DR, and I'd have been very happy with that.
HH,
Thanks and agreed.
Chrissu,
i suspected that, I.e. Quality of NDX. I remember a dealer telling me that a NDX and Unitiserve beats a HDX.....and of course you get a really good streamer v HDX being merely a network player.
I do think though that music from my nas sounds better than Spotify, perhaps I should move to Tidal, I believe(though I'm a novice at this) that Tidal offers hi-res ?
Do you find that the NDX is much much better using these streaming options than on the SU?
best,
Ray.
I haven't heard an HDX other than briefly at a dealers, but other forum members have said it has very similar SQ to NDX, so I would listen carefully before taking your dealers word on that one.
Spotify streams in a lossy format, so no surprises there! If you're prepared to pay twice the price, Tidal is better - close to CD quality, although the choice of music available at the moment seems to be more limited than other web streaming services. Use the free trial and see what you think.
Re. NDX vs SU, sound quality is better across the board, including Tidal.
Chris
It depends where the OP wishes to go. If he wishes to carry on playing CDs get the CDX2 - it's just a great machine and sounds better than streaming.
So, perhaps to better define the question, let's say I do not want to part with the SU, where does that leave the original question?
Is the CDX2 ott for the SU - from the price list looks like a probable 'yes', ditto HH and others, but price isn't everything. Others indicate that on 'source first' logic, it's an excellent move.
If I ignore, no disrespect intended, the 'do something else altogether' responses, I'm still confused. Perhaps it's time to take the tablets and lie down until the inclination stops :-)
Let's pause here and I will return, if necessary, after some serious auditioning.
Thanks all,
KR, J
The CDX2 is a bargain on the s/h market. If it's a CD player you want, you won't be disappointed.
Just got a CDX2, s/h (December 2014) for £2,000. You can find cheaper ones, and, as Finkfan says, you won't be disappointed - I bet you'll still be using it in 5, 10 years' time.
Some will say it's unreasonable to get a CD player these days, but I don't see why anyone should feel pressured to switch entirely to streaming if they don't feel like it.
Buy the CDX2...
