Focal Sopra 3

Anyone heard?

Posted on: 20 May 2016 by nigelb

I guess no one has heard them yet?

Just to bump this along I'll add that I heard the Sopra 1 today with Devialet amps. Might be the cleanest, purist mid range I've ever heard, but I don't often get to listen to speakers in that price range. Very engaging and different (in a positive way) from the former lines of Focal I'd heard.

Haven't heard them yet as they are have just come out.If there more of everything of the Sopra 2's they should be pretty tasty.I think cabinet size is bigger and bass  deeper. And as always with Focal over 91 dB sensitive so an easy load.If your using a Naim power amp a 250 DR would be probably be all you need.

Love Focal speakers great company.Good that Naim are under the same umbrella and both doing their thing.

I heard them in Munich. While I am perhaps the wrong person as reference as I don't like the focus sound. But if I forget about my personal taste - they are quite impressive indeed. And I find it interesting how they have engineered the bass sound.

Gawd the No2s need to go back then :-)

Focal Sopra 2's aim was to offer  exquisite sound in a compact enclosure, for rooms of reasonable size.

However, those of use who can stretch their legs out, the Sopra 3's fits that ticket!

""SOPRA N°3

The longest standing loudspeaker of the line, Sopra N°3 perfectly combines dynamics, space optimisation and harmonic richness.

With its two 8¼" (21cm) woofers, this loudspeaker offers solid, rich and perfectly defined bass for music lovers looking for optimum performance. Despite its reasonable size, it will reveal its full potential in rooms measuring up to 860 ft2 (80 m2 .""

A larger Version of the Sopra's 2  Nice Photo!

Mind you a  20 ft x 30 ft room is a nice size room! 600 ft2.

No I haven't heard them, nor do I have a room to accommodate them!

My room is a mere 14 x 20  280ft2

Reminds me of a Seminar I attended last month, Alex was on display. David Wilson's new kid on the block!

The 109K sounded gorgeous, but close attention had to be paid to the volume.  The Room was on the scale of roughly 600-800 ft2

Kinda of the small size for Alex!  But Heck of sound even played with low volume levels!  I guess the 50 K mono blocks didn't hurt!

Point being, I think Speakers should be chosen according to room size!

Good point about the critical relationship between room dimensions & speaker size/specification.

All but ready to place a deposit on a pair, provided the premium for a custom finish isn't too excessive.

Anyone else going next week to the Naim Statement & Sopra No. 3 demonstration at KJ West One?

Should be interesting.

Regards.

Bobby.

See you there then. I'll have a Pink Carnation in my lapel.

Recently heard a pre-owned NAC552/555PS DR against the NAC252/SuperCap DR with NDX/XPS2 DR as source & NAP250 DR down here on the South Coast.

Hope this won't be against moderator rules, as i've nothing whatsoever to gain from its sale. The pre-owned NAC552/555PS DR is available at a hefty wedge less than list price. Especially considering it's only a few months old & barely been used. The owner's upgraded to the Statement. Lucky beggar.

BTW. In a place called The Grapes(?). Better atmosphere & decor from what i remember when i last visited. And a decent eclectic mix of music old & new.

Regards.

Just for information, the 552 comes with the 552PS. If it was paired with the 555PS there would be silence.

A slap round the face by a wet fish? It can sting for a bit but you get over it.

Surely there is better photo that could be chosen, rather than some bloke bending over as if farting. And why does everything have to be so shiny, like a kitchen cupboard?

I was fortunate enough to be at the Sopra No 3 public debut last week.

Short version: If you like Sopra No2 then the 3 is the same but a bigger and more substantial presentation.  Nice smooth detailed top end. Musical. If you like Utopias then you'll probably think the Sopras aren't hifi nor aggressive enough.

More can be found as part of blog post about a Naim factory visit. You can find it by a search for: audiophile musings bentley naim

In all fairness though, if you disregard the bloke in the middle (can't help thinking he's aping Peter S. with that pose but that's another story) the system itself actually looks quite good.

Posted on: 04 June 2016 by wenger2015

In my humble opinion,  the system looks superb, and I know it will sound equally superb....
