Unable to see tracks using new iPhone
Posted by: Maybo on 24 May 2016
Evening All,
I've been happily accessing files on my Synology NAS from both my Uniti2 & Mu-so via my HTC phone. Recently changed to an iPhone and although I can see the album folders in the Naim app I can no longer see or select any tracks. Any ideas?
Thanks.
What server software are you running?
Hi Adam,
Thanks for replying. I'm running version 4.2
My question was about your music server software on your NAS e.g Minimserver, Twonky....
I would kill the app (double click the home button and then swipe the app off the screen) and reopen it. Clear the image cache and upnp cache. If that doesn't work, delete the app and reload it.
My apologies. I'm not explaining myself very well! I'm not running any music server software, I just have the FLAC files in folders and navigate to them via the UPnP part of the app. That has worked fine for me until I switched phones.
You must be running server software, otherwise the Uniti couldn't play anything. You are probably using Synology's own media server. Anyway, as it worked with the android it should work with the Apple.
Exactly - you must run a server soft on your NAS or a music server like UnitiServe.
I suggest you install Minimserver - it's free to download, but please remember to make a donation if you like it and intend to use it.
The first thing is to get the app working. The server must be ok or the previous phone app would not have worked.

Respectfully disagree . . . the Original Poster should get things sorted out first using the server he's already running (even though he doesn't know he's running one) . . . which is the native Synology server. Once that is running as intended, he can decide if/when he wants a different one.
Given that he doesn't know he's running any server, advice to install a different one is, IMHO, a few too many steps ahead.
Sorry gents - the older I get the stupider I get!! Sad really! I appreciate the NAS is a server and it is currently on DSM4.2 and I'm only accessing the stored files via UPnP on the two Naim units. This has worked perfectly in a simple (and perhaps incorrect) method were I just select a particular album (folder) for the past 12+ months. I've switched phones, installed the Naim app on the iPhone and can see the folders but no tracks within them.
I'll take a look at the Minimserver software which is probably the way to go but up until now the above method was OK. Sorry if I've been annoying!
I would not install Minimserver at this time, lets get this iPhone connection sorted first, it cannot be much other than getting a few things straightened out. The NAS is a Synology & it has its own media server installed. Minimserver was a bit of a fiddle to install & its more so since the new DSM-6.
Maybo, it does not make sense that you can see the album but not the tracks. Have you got the Naim app installed from the App Store ?? only asking to be sure to be sure. In the Synology webpage, check what packages are installed & running, you probably have been using Media Server as it was streaming OK on the old phone - but please confirm this. If you have others just turn them off & only have Media Server running. Per HH, on the iPhone Settings tool popup menu, clear both UPnP cache & Images cache. If thats all done, it should be working OK, thats what I have & its working OK on my iPad & iPhone & Mrs Android phone.
PS: DSM-4 is way old, you've missed a whole 2 years of DSM-5 & now its DSM-6, time to get that sorted as well

Of course. App first. But if there is no server soft, how did the streaming work? Unless OP was using the residing Synology software to stream... Not clear from the answers given.
Now it's clear...
Typing my responses while others came in.
Agree - forget the Minimserver for now.
Let's get your iPhone app sorted first.
Tried clearing the cache but no joy. I've just dusted off the iPad (don't use it much these days) and that sees the tracks plus I've tried the now 'replaced' HTC phone and that works too. I'll reinstall the app and see what happens.
I've got an old DS209j so 4.2 is as far as I can go to the best of my knowledge.
Reinstalling has sorted it. It didn't bloody work the other day when I tried it!
Thank you all for your help and sorry for taking up your time.
See, I'm clever, me. I'm glad it's all working happily. You may want to think about a new NAS at some point though, as a 2009 is distinctly elderly, and it will at some point conk out. And you are backing up the NAS to an external drive, aren't you?
OK at least we are getting somewhere & it appears we ain't so dumb after all, it's an iPhone issue somewhere. Is that a new one & with 9.3.2 software
Re DS209, yr right, I've just checked the Syn www download centre & its limited to DSM-4.2 ........... when's your birthday ???
Haha credit where's it's due. I am backing up.
Yeah it's a new one running 9.3.2.
My birthday is Feb so you've all got time to club together and buy me a new one. This is such a lovely & caring group!!!!

I'm a February birthday too. But I have to tell you these cheap ba$tards have never bought me a thing for my birthday!
And my birthday is the same day as Bart's... There's a Tudor watch I like the look of, so if you get me that I'll buy you a new NAS. I'll even get you a couple of drives to go inside.
Sounds like a good deal........
For an old and stupid person, that's a nice use of a young person's emoticon.

Maybe the new Pelagos with the blue dial? It's lovely.

There's life in the old (middle aged) dog yet!!!
Do I get something too? I will content myself with an Omega...
