Uniti 1 or nait 5i/cd5si

Need a second naim system. So my options is buying a 2hand Uniti 1 or a 2hand nait 5i (non italic) + cd5si. Price is about the same. I'm only interested in CD playing so the streaming function from the uniti doesn't matter, but are they close in generel perfomance?

Having heard the separates at a dealer and then taking home the original Uniti for a demo, I was hard pressed to find much of a defining difference. Both options well presented the Naim boogie factor at its basic level. Box count, cable dressing, Powerline upgrades, and possible addition of a FCXS seem factors for you to consider. For pure simplicity, I'd opt for the Uniti with a PL - always nice to have the internet radio option if that plays into your situation.

I changed to the uniti 1 from my 5i combo i while ago, but turned quick back, 5i separets take more space but are better, and if you want to upgrade to streaming in the future you it easy to add nd5xs, dac etc..

A vote for the 5i plus CD5si here. To me the little 5i is special. But if space is a premium or you just like simplicity in your setups, the Uniti will more than satisfy.

I heard both, with PMC speakers - this was 4-5 years ago, and the 5i/CD5i were definitely more to my liking. I ended up getting the CD5XS/Nait XS, which sounded more refined.

The Uniti CD transport and DAC (separate from that used for the digital inputs / streamer) are exactly the same as that used in the CD5i, so it's largely a case of amplifier preference vs. convenience. In a second system, I'd go for convenience every time.

You can pair it up with an older AirPort Express for 44.1 kHz AirPlay support via one of the optical inputs; depending on what you're feeding the HRT with in the main system, this may allow you to access the same media library in a second room, e.g., Roon, etc.
