SU Tech Specs

Geeky question but I was asked a question today and can't find the answer. Does anyone know where i can find the current output and damping factor for the SU?

(Or does anyone just know what they are?).

Thanks a lot.

Paul,

try an e-mail to Naim (info@naimaudio.com).

Power output: 80W per channel 8Ω both channels driven.
Damping Factor: Sufficient

Its in the usual place for all the products,   Naim's web page  .......  https://www.naimaudio.com/product/superuniti ........ 80W per channel into 8Ω, 120W per channel into 4Ω (0.1% THD both channel driven)

DF is never listed.  (IMO) its all a bit nonsensical,  but whatever its always low on Naim amps as they don't have an output stage inductor.

Mike I'm not sure it's due to the lack of an inductor.  I thought it was lower because Naim use a poweramp design with lower open-loop forward gain and less dependence on the negative feedback.

I'd agree it's mostly nonsensical, in most cases, at least 90% of the speaker circuit resistance is in the speakers themselves, the speaker cables and poweramp output impedance (i.e. DF) are minor considerations in comparison.

I understand it as simple output impedance & no output inductor gives a marginally lower impedance - I dare say it can be made to include all sorts of things like gain & feedback with the amp end,  but its all academic with an amp (I did call it nonsense).  Its more relevant for the 'speaker.

Mike, correct, but low output impedance gives a high DF!

Oh well,  I'm blown outta the water,  still a load of nonsense ..............  I've found some words from  Elliott Sound Products    http://sound.westhost.com/impedanc.htm#damp                         I might have a read one of these dull wet days
