ZYX cartridges

Posted by: Miki185 on 02 June 2016

Hi,

Does someone have experience with these cartridges? (the Omega in particular)

How would you describe the differences between ZYX cartridges and DynaVector/Linn/Koetsu cartridges in terms of sound quality?

In terms of mechanical specifications of both the arm and phono cartridge, the ZYX Omega would be a proper match?

System is 500 series, SL2, LP12, Aro, Armageddon, SuperLine + Supercap DR.

Kind Regards,

Miki

I first heard an Omega last year on a Kronos TT. Most musically compelling thing I ever heard.

Hard to describe with words, but its naturalness and its presentation bring tears to my eyes!

I since tried R50, and all 3 versions of R100, on my TT. Replaced my Lyra Kleos with a R100 Fuji,

with no regrets. Years ago, when I first tried a Naim amp at home, I felt my  continuing quest for audio satisfaction was over, brand wise. I feel exactly the same way about Zyx.

I heard similar things from the US ZYX distributor.   ZYX have a "premium" new technology version that costs either $4000 or $6000, depending on the model, or more for the top of the line,  in the US.   Sorasound has a website promoting it.   The Moerch founder uses ZYX on his personal table, etc.   That may be true, but after my pre-Naim tour of boutique audio brands, I am very circumspect about the "latest and greatest" of whatever product that beats the mainstream brand.   That may, while they are in business, be true but who knows about the long term.   To wit, see Merlin, Joule-Electra, TG Audio, etc.   I have gotten 16 years out of my Helikon and Lyra is still doing well.  I just don't want to get off into the weeds on a boutique cartridge brand.
