SBL vs nSat

Posted by: Bruce Woodhouse on 03 June 2016

I'm not great at reviews but just a quick impression of moving my speakers around in my second system. It lives in quite a large area room that is an odd shape being an open plan 'H' so needs a bit of volume.

I have a Qute plus a vintage 250, nSub and nSats/stands but the arrival of Sl2s in my main system has liberated my old SBLs. Listening back to back with them in the second system v nSats is interesting. Firstly I have had to slightly reduce the sub settings as the bass of the SBL is fuller but it is interesting how they both share a great deal. Very fast, very fresh sounding and just very good to listen to. On balance the nSats lose but they are a very fine little speaker I reckon, and in a smaller room I'd probably have kept them in preference actually.

I know it has been said before but does seem a shame Naim did not pursue this product line with other small closed box designs.

PS The SL2s are settling just fine now!

Fast n' fresh, uh-hur, uh-hur,

That's the way, I like it    :-)

Absolutely Bruce, very much in agreement with your comparison. Am also rather relieved at how good my SBLs sound in this small room. But I take nothing away from the Sats that I once had.

Pleased about your SL2s.

I have never had the opportunity to listen to SBL's, but I did listen to some nSats without the nSub  a good few years ago. I was really impressed, very fast and agile.

Amazed there's been no more takers on this one. But then one speaker's an old product and the other is a seriously old product  ;-)

I'm still tempted on the n-sat front.

Do miss the motives a bit in hindsight. Just seem to need A bit more volume with the petite, not I get much time these days

I don't think the Sats would give more bass than the Petites, Ben. Tighter though. That's not dissing the Petites.
