best power strip for Naim
Posted by: greekspec2 on 05 June 2016
hey folks I currently invested a lot of money on my system and can not for the life of me get a honest answer for which is the best power strip I can purchase for my system.I've already heard contradicting answers form so-call Naimees that have opinion one year and another the next so what do you think?
I have my eye on a Audience AR6 PDC and I don't have a dedicated circuit my system consist of,
NAP 300-DR
NAP N-272
FOCAL SOPRA 2
NAC A5
just my 2 amps worth, but get a dedicated circuit and plug your components direct into the mains sockets.
A power strip is just an obstacle in-between the components and the wall sockets.

I'm inclined to agree. Especially the NAP300. Best plug that straight into a mains socket without anything in the way. Hope this helps.

I understand that but I don't own this house so whats my next best option?
The Musicworks Reflex Lite is much favoured as it provides star earthing and avoids the mains conditioning which allegedly ruins the Naim sound. I use an earlier version and it's fine. Mine has a captive lead. The Reflex doesn't, so you can use a Powerline from the block to the wall.
A dedicated mains ring or radial is also a good idea, but I would avoid plugging into multiple wall sockets. Use a distribution block or a hydra arrangement.

Ah, but you're in Calafornia, so I'm not sure the Musicworks will be an option.
I have a pair of double unswitched sockets on my ring main. Luckily my kitchen circuit is on a different circuit as its a bit difficult to put a dedicated supply in my house without knocking it about a bit. I also have a 300dr and find a nice improvement by adding a powerline to it. What the improvement is I don't know but it just sounds better![]()
My only option I guess I got would be the Audience PDC?

Yes sunny California ![]()
Go for the AVOptions Super Wiremold Cryo. Relatively inexpensive and seemingly does the least harm compared to a direct connection to the wall. Chris West (the owner of AVO) has done extensive listening tests with various power options, especially in the context of Naim systems.
Reach out to AV Options and they will set you up. You can trust them ![]()

I own a plain Wiremold with a WattGate 5266i plug on it already.I've been told so many things already by official and non official past Naim employees different things.

Nine times out of ten, this has had much to do with quality control from third-party suppliers, or changes to the manner by which a device has been manufactured or specified. I'd definitely trust Chris and the AV Options crew on this; they have more continuous Naim-centric experience (and A-B comparisons) regarding this type of accessory in the U.S. market than anyone else, period. The Cryo Wiremold is as good a baseline as one will fine without sacrificing small virgin animals on the equinox while incanting the magic ... well - you get what I mean.
Get a dedicated circuit and an AV Options Super Wiremold. It is the best strip for the money and maybe the best out there right now. Audience is overpriced and not as good.

I'm willing to sacrifice virgin animals to get a quality product,I invested numerous amounts of money into my system and would like the best I can get here in North America

I've read numerous posts on here from A.V.O. raving about the Audience PDC being the top North American strip money can buy now interesting it's not that great?
It's not that the PDC is bad in anyway, it is just unnecessary to spend that much money when comparable to arguably better performance can be obtained by the Super Wiremold. If you just want to say you spent the most money then get the Audience.
The truth of the matter is that the greatest gain to be had (by many multiples IME) is the dedicated circuit, but that is out in your case.

The AVO recommendations for the PDC are from a number of years ago. Things change. The Super Wiremold is as good for a quarter the price. Why would they keep selling the PDC under those circumstances?
To reiterate, the Super Wiremold is the best there is for Naim systems as of June 2016.
Further, AVO are the only people who have had extensive experience with both the PDC and with the Super Wiremold. I think they know what they are talking about.

well if that is the so called case then I'm good since I have one minus the cryo treatment
What you have is not the same: it has no deep cryo, no plinth, no professional termination, no extensive testing in reference Naim systems.
But if it makes you happy, go with it.
Yep - for the money, the AV Options cryo one is a no-brainer. Worse money has been spent scraping the bottom of the bowl for more frosting.

it actually has a maple plinth with the same acoustifeet and wattgate plug, only thing is no deep cyro which until Naim does it to there equipment then I'll approve
As Jay & David point out, AV Options use to sell the PDC, but when they upgraded/made the Super Wiremold, they stopped selling the PDC. That doesn't mean the PDC is a bad product though.
Based on the fact you don't own the house and that consensus is dedicated spur is the best but you can't do it you also have two other things to 'tweak' the system.
1) You can still upgrade the outlet you are plugging the power bar/cables into - AVO sell the Cyro Hubbell Duplex units - you can install (or get electrician) and remove when you leave.
2) You don't mention if you have the Hi Line or AVO's Cyro TibiaPlus on your Naim equipment, that might also give you a lift.
But the upgrade order generally is Spur / Duplex / Cable ( and depending on number of devices a Wiremold/PDC between Duplex & Cable )
Good luck, but a call/email to AVO might help clarify your concerns.
Nordost Quantum Qbase is another well appreciated mains block. It provides star earthing as well. Before the QB8 I had a Supra MD06 Mk II that offers very good VFM. One key is often to use the manufacturer mains cable to the wall. Certainly so with the Supra and LoRad. ![]()

I think you're set up pretty well with what you've got. The basic Wiremold was a big boost for me versus my former NANA Noisetrapper (which AVO previously endorsed). I'd look at wall sockets for the next best improvement in your power delivery, especially if you're using a consumer grade socket.
