Metadatics for WAV metadata

Posted by: Dan43 on 08 June 2016

This is working out well for renaming WAV files in my library, has anyone else used this at all?

Like many before my Qobuz WAV downloads just don't get seen correctly in Minim or N1A Twonky, I do prefer to keep WAV as the Master file format through choice (as not everything I use has FLAC-WAV conversion) and have found both dBpoweramp and Metadatics both help get me the WAV files correctly named and in the order etc and I can rename WAV to my preference for viewing.

Just wondered if anyone else has used it for WAV renaming, album artwork and so forth?

I've used it a lot on a friends Mac going back over a year.  But I'm all PC myself & use dBpoweramp (best for smaller tag editing & #1 for ripping & converting)  & also use Mp3tag (best for more extensive editing work)     TBH between the three & my limited experience on the Mac, there is not much to choose.      Finally I'm all WAV (& some DSD)  I will buy FLAC if (some) web-stores only sell FLAC & convert - & if its Qobuz it always needs some tinkering.   I have never had any issues associated with WAV other than rare & minor,   & easily resolved by using any of the listed software progs.

Bought Metadatics for about £8 online. None of my Qobuz WAV files read in Minim, none at all ever. Wonky Twonky just doesn't get them either. So it must be the metadata.

Now I load the WAV files into Metadatics, get the album track details from MuiscBrainz online library (so renaming the files essentially to burn this metadata into the WAV) and save those details to the WAV files. Then I rename with a simple template for 2 digit track number and track name only (loosing all the bloated Qobuz naming extensions) and add album artwork.

PRESTO, all WAV are now visible to Minim with proper naming and order (which was annoying on albums like The Wall) and no need to re-save as WAV-WAV via dBpoweramp.

Conclusion - Qobuz metadata writing and naming convention for the WAV files sucks :-)

That might be what I need to invest in. I brought an Apple app called Tag Editor which seems to work well with 16bit wav files allowing me to embed the album artwork. However when I used it on downloaded 24bit wav files from Qobuz of Led Zeppelin IV it corrupted several files making them unplayable.

I'm in the middle of a Metadata changing/updating session, and every 24bit WAV I have changed (to my own liking/look) has been found by Minim. I'm also adding artwork I prefer to other files/albums and updating some DVD-A rips from my collection, it is working very well for me and all my WAVs are now equal for how Minim presents them.

I Just bought a copy of Metadatics . Its interesting that it takes a lot longer to save edited files than the Tag Editor app. Now if I could only find an easy way to rip my sacd's!

Metadatics is definitely my program of choice for OS X!

When Metadatics is saving files with newly embedded artwork, it does actually take longer than I'd expect (if the files are on my nas).  I'm not quite sure why it's so slow.  Not unusably slow, just slower than expected.

I use XLD to rip and to add/correct part of the metadata and Metadatics for more complex addition or corrections. It works very well in my environment. (MAC-Audirvana).

+1

I too find XLD and Metadatics works well.
