Power bar for 252/552

Posted by: best_jerry on 08 June 2016

As many members already upgraded system by these two years, so i would like to know the most update power bar that you are using for 252/552 level system, that will be a very good reference for me to upgrade the power bar.

I'm using duraplug power bar.

I have a new 252 based system on order (eight weeks and still waiting !!) the dealer has recommended a Music Works Reflex Light with a Naim Power Line these will be used when the system is installed.

I tried Wireworld Matrix 2 and Furutech eTP60.

Chose Furutech eTP60 for my 252/CSDR/250DR system. Wireworld was ok for a less revealing system.

I use an old Russ Andrews multi-block on mine. The woven cabling matches that in the dedicated rings-main I installed many years ago.

I use Nordost QB8 all PL and to the wall.

Furutech is filtered, wireworld not.

I prefer non filtered power strip, more dynamic and realistic sound.

Wireworld is a good product, star cabled, the best value for money imho.

I have 252 as well and it works fine.

Furutech eTP60 is not filtered. That's why I tested it in the first place.

Misicworks Megablock with a Powerline here. Sounds good. Improved the sound. No idea how it stacks up against other such devices.

Home made using unswitched MK sockets mounted on a block made of 2 dissimilar woods, not star anything, still works pretty good. need a linear block for space reasons so musicworks lite is out. Heratic Audio do something that looks a bit like mine but is star everything and a bit thicker, but not got round to trying it yet.

Snap !!!    Home made using four double unswitched MK sockets mounted on MDF.  L&N are tight twisted in a ring circuit, E is star.  The power block includes my own design DC blocker & its cable is Supra LoRad 2.5mm with an MS-HD Power silver (UK 13 amp plug)

MusicWorks Reflex Light here, also recommended by my dealer.

Appreciated all your updated info's! The most public bar here are wireworld and musicworks.

As you know the musicworks are most expensive than wireworld, any kind members can share the presentation of both of them, I prefer the sound natural, open and wide soundstage, do not like the power bar just tighten everything but shorten the soundstage.

Thank you

Can you borrow both from your dealer and just test? That's what I do with almost every piece now - an extensive home demo. You have a very revealing system, so every bit matters now.

Hi Adam, this is not possible to borrow both from dealer, there is only a small shop which selling wireworld in Hong Kong, also no any shop here to selling musicworks, so I only can take the advice/comments in this forum to make decision.

Fair enough - borrow the Wirelwordld Matrix 2 then. If you like it (or in other words - it doesn't do anything nasty to your system) just buy it as it's relatively inexpensive and fairly neutral. i have one myself.

I didn’t compare my Megablock to another specialist device, just a standard high street bar. The improvement was akin to installing a Fraim. Clarity, a fleetness of foot, not so much what was added as what was removed. Mush, confusion, lack of focus. Not by giant degrees but enough to notice and more than enough to justify the cost. If you can borrow before buying, all the better.

+1 I use 2  x RA Ultra PurifierBlock (has 8 sockets and includes an integrated purifier)

As per the web site Russ Andrew block is filted so is this suit for naim?

Posted on: 09 June 2016 by ac16161

I've been running my first Naim system (NDX/282/HC/250DR) for a few weeks now and at first had it connected to my RA purifier-block, which had given me great results with other equipment. I could not shake off a sense that the system sounded a bit shut-in. I switched to a standard block (still using RA mains leads) and the sound opened up a lot. Not all RA Ultra Blocks are fitted with a purifier, but based on my experience I'll be more cautious in using filtered products in future.

My old RA block doesn't have any filtering on it. I do have separate RA Purifier, mentioned by ROBGR, but since getting Naim kit I've moved that to the block powering the TV. As far as a know, you can specify RA power-blocks with and without such filters.

Try the WireWorld Matrix 2. I am using it on my system and it's working perfectly fine. Sound opened up, blacker black etc... I am from HK too and the price for this power bar is so cheap! You can get it for HKD $1K totally worth the try.

Hi Nic, just bought the wireworld block today, will wait a week for run in and take audition with my old duraplug block.

Also thank you for other members for the advice!

I'd say give it 5 years, give or take a month...

On a serious note - it's more or less ready. Settles down nicely after a day or so.

It will take the same time as buyer's remorse does to fade. But, no seriously, 2 weeks 2 days, 12 hours and about 35 minutes,v(give or take 2 minutes) and that inky blackness will be everywhere. I tell you, the difference is not subtle!
