These were based on the design of the Royd Apex: I bought a pair of those in the early 90s and really enjoyed them, they are still doing a great job in my daughters house today.

A pair sounded amazing in my place on the end of my Nait2. The ones i had may have been the slightly later 1.5/2 versions though, with the Rega driver and half fluted. The all Royd driver version are meant to sound different/better. They are both, mk1 or 2, a gift on the used market, and the combination with a Nait 2 was extraordinarily musical.

IMHO, quite underrated speakers from Rega which go for pennies these days. I've had a pair for some twenty years now and they have been used on the end of a variety of Naim amps, including Nait 2, Nait 3, 112/150 and also 52/135's for a short period of time. They mostly sounded great with everything connected to them, are revealing as to the quality of the signal fed to them. Plus, being an efficient design they are pretty easy to drive so don't need oodles of power. Also quite 'wall friendly' too, so easy to place in the room. Most important of all for me, they are just great fun!

My old timers have been put out to pasture in their dotage in a fairly undemanding role as front L&R AV speakers, plus Kytes as the rear channel monitors and a Rega R-VOX as the centre channel - all connected to a Yamaha AV amp. In all honesty they are probably too good for this current role!

I had a pair initially with Creek 4040 and then with a Naimuniti 1. They are good speakers but are base lite so I thought they were very well suited to classical and jazz and not so good for rock. Incidentally they are sat on a tripod spike arrangement which I found a bit unstable when the kids were young. My niece now has them for a turntable system for classical music.

Lovely loudspeakers. They employ a very good bass loading system (a sort of transmission line?), so the bass quality is excellent. They can thus be used to great effect, quite close to a boundary and look nicely discreet.

As others have said - a really nice rare and underrated transducer. Snap 'em up.

JATRT21, Agree re the stability issue, but the three point levelling system does makes them an absolute breeze to set up. I addressed this minor stability issue a while back to try and toddler proof them, having a bit of a play with some MDF and quite a bit of patience. Thread over on the fishy site: http://www.pinkfishmedia.net/f...wthread.php?t=133965

On the Royd audio website there's a long review/comparison between the Apexes and the Elas. I once had a pair and I wish I had a pair now. Moderate bottom end and enthusiastic top end.
