Should I buy a Unitiserve
Posted by: FelipeCG on 10 June 2016
Hi all. I'm considering buying the 2TB Unitiserve, but I have a couple of concerns since I had have bad experiences with music servers from other brands.
Is the operation smooth?
Does the US manage propertly big music libraries (aprox 1000 cd in Flac)
Is the interface easy to use?
The IOS app works propertly?
Does the Unitiserve read M3U playlist that are already in my NAS? Can I copy them along with the music files to the US?
Thanks a lot!
HDD 2TB. I previously ran an HDX HDD for 6 years without a hiccup. Time for a change though. I run a Netgear NAS as backup. Some seem to have issues with the Unitiserve but so far so good and there's always that legendary Naim service support should any issues arise. I also got mine on offer late last year and paid considerably less than the list price as I intended to upgrade to an NDS which I did 2 months back.

I've had good audio experiences with my UnitiServe and make no apologies for that. Others have had better experiences with other solutions - that's fine as well - as I said, YMMV
If he'd asked about Melco, then I'm sure that Melco owners would have responded.

I was trying to support your argument George - You are suggesting, I think, that the UnitiServe improves playback. The advocates of Melco make the same observation so it seems reasonable that a well designed naim server should offer the same benefits.

You guys probably already know this but the UnitiServe and Melco both share a gentleman by the name of Alistair Haines ( if memory serves!) who was on both design teams.
I think that you might mean Alan Ainslie?

Just looked at your profile - you really need that 555PSDR now
About to order so well guessed! The XPS DR isn't a bad stop-gap though.

You will love what 555PS does to your NDS
I'm converted - unlike my bank balance! James at Tom Tom is standing ready and will no doubt find a good home for my XPS-DR. As usual he's keeping me poor but very happy. I traded my HDX/nDAC for the NDS and to my ears the improvement is substantial, even with the XPS-DR standing in. I was using a Unitiquite for R3 Hidef streaming before the NDS and it goes without saying that the latter is in another league. Interestingly I'm experiencing fewer radio drop-outs too - or perhaps that's chance? Having said that, my serviced NAT01 still does an excellent job and is used most days.

Right you are PhilP
Was doing the name from memory as the link had disapeared, not a good thing at my age. At least I remembered a "very English" name. And until your post Phil, it looked like I had got away with it!
Cheers

Chag -
Latest firmware update and an external drive plugged into the USB socket on the front and you have ripping too.
Adam's fault - I took the plunge on a new 555DR this morning - two new Burndies doing nothing so here goes to an enhanced NDS experience. SWMBO has given up on me but I did promise no more toys until 2017. I think you can guess the answer! Looking at current build times it'll probably be a Christmas present
I was also 'banned' from buying more 'music gadgets' this year
My 555 PS took approximately 6 weeks.
When I talk about buying anything with Naim on it, my wife laughs. But not wholly in a nice way.

David - at least your wife laughs. When I mention a must have piece of NAIM, I'm met with 'you promissed' type of response. Not nice either....
Life is hard....
Even my daughter has a go.' I could get 5 MacBooks for that' or 'Why do you replace one black box with another one that looks the same? 'Obviously time for Statement!
Daughter then rounds on me and says 'Well if you're having that I want a new MacBook! ' I then get 'All those boxes are the same...why do you need do many??'
