Euros 2016

So, I was tempted to say the competition starts properly today with the England and Wales opening games but after Payet's glorious goal last night I think that would be a tad unfair...

Anyhow, given the English RU boys are beating Australia in their own back yard, the Test team are in fine form against Sri Lanka and with high hopes around the whole nation for our Olympians in Rio can England (or even Wales or NI) deliver?

Good Belgian players, not very good Belgian team

Hopefully Conte can get Chelsea as well organised!

I thought Italy looked good. Technically and tactically very proficient - which we always expect of Italian teams - but also with a pleasing flair going forward.  They picked up quite a few yellow cards for professional fouls but then that's Italy too.

Absolutely. The first thought when they got the ball seemed to be to stop and look backwards. Little drive or purpose.

I only saw the first half but thought Italy were a fantastic unit, competitive and superbly organised. Will be very tough to beat.

Ref was good. Best English performance of the tournament so far.....

Considering that the Italians were portrayed by the media as being the weakest team for years, I thought they were excellent.

Some of the pundits commented on the fact that their game plan consisted of varying the play, one minute going wide, alternating with killer passes through the middle of the park...............seemed to work fine.

Italy have always been my fallback team whenever my team is eliminated from big competitions, so, as a member of the the only home nation not to have qualified for the Euros.................forza Azzurri!

No one fancied the Magyars against Austria, but 2 -0 says it all.

A team with no real superstars, but, playing for each other.........with a goalkeeper who's just captured the record as the oldest player so far to play in the competition..............Hungary to do a Leicester City anyone?

Come on Iceland! Giving a good account of themselves so far, in their first-ever international competition.

Nice result for the smallest country taking part

Posted on: 14 June 2016 by Kevin-W

Apparently J, there was a tenth of the entire country's population in the stadium tonight.

I wonder if we could send 6 or 7 million somewhere for a while? Is Australia still open?

You have a long list Jamie!

Russia Slovakia getting more interesting..!

Good team, Slovakia. I don't understand why it took so long for the Russians to get going. They look most likely to go out of this group TBH.

Fingers crossed...

Alabania were unfortunate, I thought. France - aside from Payet, who scored another beauty - still look unconvincing.

Things aren't looking up much. I can't think of any other "sport" that suffers from this crap.

I’m not convinced by the “Wales are a team” hype. They may be a team, but lets face it, they’re a team of not very good footballers. (Apart from one very good footballer).

All the games have been close so far, I’d say we’re due for somebody to get a thumping.

You can get very good odds on England winning by four goals.

I think you're missing the point of what the word 'team' means. England's players may be technically better but you can't win games at this level without a fair degree of technique and ability

Wheeereeeeeee

This time Hodgson got the substitutions right. Suspect we won't see Sterling on the team-sheet in the next game, and rightly.

So England can only beat Wales if they have an obvious offside goal mysteriously allowed,

then a second goal allowed that was scored a couple of minutes after the game should have ended.

Is there any match fixing going on?

We should be told...
