A+ app can't find my Mac Mini

Posted by: Will99 on 13 June 2016

This has been irritating me for some time now - I have looked on search but could not find any answers ...

I am running Audirvana + into Dac-V1 and have the A+ app on my iPad. However it seems to be very 'hit & miss' whether the A+ app actually can find my Mini or not. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't - quite often it does not connect when the Mini has been in sleep mode. I can even use the Splashtop screen sharing app on the iPad to access Audirvana + that way (so the Mini is up and running) but still A+ app does not see the Mini. I am not using Audirvana in iTunes integrated mode, and I have my Mini set up with a static IP address.

It is most frustrating and makes the whole process of selecting music to listen to an annoying game of chance and a hassle.

I presume there is something I have not configured correctly ?

I think you need to do the followings:

1) Make sure that your MM never sleeps. This can be set by the System Preferences

2) Your A+ on the MM must be running (and play music)

It is not about the A+app connecting to your MM, it is about the A+ app on your iPhone connecting to the A+ app running on your MM

Bingo ! Thank you for that. As soon as I opened Audirvana + on the MM (using Splashtop screen share on my iPad) then the A+ app on my iPad worked. I had thought that the A+ app on the iPad would start Audirvana + (on the MM) by itself.

Ok so I have to leave the MM and Audirvana + running 24x7 in order to be able to just use the A+ app whenever I want - not ideal but hey I already leave all my other hifi hardware  on 24x7 anyway ....

Thanks again ...

I leave my running 24/7 but if you don't want to you can just switch the MM on and run A+ and then the remote will connect.

I have yet to read up about how to optimally configure a MM for audio playback, but I presume I can at least configure it to open Audirvana + whenever it powers up ? Just wondering if that allows me to turn it off when not in use but avoids the need to use a screen sharing app to start Audirvana.

leave the mac mini on all the time so the A+ can see the mac at any time

-go to System preferences find ENERGY SAVER- I leave the slider for Computer sleep and display sleep at NEVER . The Wake up for network access is I notice I have ticked

I've used Audirvana and A+ into a DAC V1 for a couple of weeks and I'm very please with the sound quality

Unfortunately the menu at the bottom of the app for artists album etc is bloody tiny and I don't know if I can enlarge that.

The MM is quite happy being turned off by its power sw. If Audirvana is set to load automatically, all you need to do is press the power button again, and it doesnt take long to boot up and be ready.

Re leaving the MM on 24/7.  It is possible to create a schedule for turning the MM on and off.  I've set mine to come on at 7am and off at 11pm.

The energy saver settings should still be set as described by posters above.
