NAT O1 Tuner fault

Posted by: Super on 13 June 2016

I don't use the tuner much, about once every 2 or 3 months for a couple of hours.  However on Saturday i had it on and after a couple hours  i had a scout around on the dial to see if there was any new stations. I was listening to a station when all of a sudden it jumped off frequency and now all the stations have gone. The only ones that are left are the main BBC R1 2 3 & 4, but they are weak and the signal and stereo beacon lights are not lit. The FM band that is 88 -108 MHZ now on my tuner is more like 85 - 106 MHZ. Is problem in the tuner head or could it be a stage in the power supply  ? Any ideas anyone ?

I suggest you make a call to the factory service dept for further advice on this.

what kind of antenna you using? Could there be a break in the line connecting antenna to tuner?

David, It's a Ron Smith galaxy 14 aerial ( i think ). But even if there was a break in the line to the aerial it wouldn't explain why the is now a frequency shift on the scale (with the aerial plugged in or not).

As Richard says a call to the factory recommended. Sounds like (one of) the  IF stages has developed a fault... I suspect a cap has gone open or closed circuit somewhere.

May not be the tuner itself but the power supply. IIRC the PSU for the 01 provided a number of power rails to the head unit and some of these were reference voltages.

A fantastic classic tuner though so hopefully a simple fix (or a service if it's not been done for a while) by Naim will sort it out.
