thanks for clearing up the previous fuse issue, now on to this with something i forgot to mention
the volume on my pc for the df dac is set to the same level that the cd player outputs this made most sense to me...which is arround 82-86, the dac goes upto 100 of course and i think i used it at arround 96 or so once, i also know know the amp is slightly underpowred for the epos es14's im using and dont want to blow anything,
is there an optimal level i "should" be using this at, i use foorbar player and have it set to event wasapi mode which i believe is the best method for sending music out.
secondly but still about the dragonfly... is regarding the nac connection point, there are some adaptors that were on the phono port for phono plugs and i moved them to the aux port, i have a 5pin din to female on tape 1 which is what i was using primarily with the dragonfly but thought the direct connection would be better since the din/phono is only a cheap one, any ones i might look into? there's one on ebay for 110 but thats a bit much right now cant seem to find many others
however the aux volume is conciderably quieter say about 6-10 db guessing perhaps more, should i stick wiht the din?
this unit is in need of service but as the nap broke i sent that in first till i can afford the nac and wondering is this is why the drop in volume is so much, i need to do some more thourough testing to see if i can hear the difference but initally it was just the volume.

For fixed output mode, where the Dragonfly is connected and volume is controlled via a Hifi Pre-amp, the computer volume should be set at maximum. I'm not sure what pre-amp you are using - I assume it's a Naim one - but recommend you use a good quality 3.5mm jack - DIN5 interconnect (Naim do a version of the grey i/c or else something from Chord) and input through a DIN line level input.

Hi thanks Richard
i have a nac 72 and the cable is a qed performance £30 one, will look into other options when i can afford them, chord cables are very pricy! and the only 3.5 to din is too short i need a 3 metre one...nor could i find the naim you're talking about but i found these from Flashback.
are they likely to improve over the current adaptor im using or should i wait till i can afford something better, and im aware i shouldn't use the gold plated option for the din/niam connection
as far as where to connect for now im still unsure, the phono to din adaptor or the direct phono (aux)
cheers

QED are a good solid company who make good quality, no nonsense cables. While I don't know the Performance cable you refer to, there's a good chance it is of reasonable quality and ability. Only problem are the RCA phono terminations, where DIN would be far better suited to your Naim pre-amp. I'm guessing you are inputting through the BNC phono input, using BNC to RCA adaptors? The adaptors will be doing the sound performance no favours at all. Do you know whether you have NA326 "straight-through" cards on that input or perhaps NA328 cards? If the latter, they won't be helping things. Best to go with a 3.5mm - DIN cable. I think the Naim 3.5mm-DIN5 can be ordered through your Naim dealer. Otherwise look for the Chord iChord (DIN version) cable.

yes i noticed the difference from the £6 cable to the £30 qed straight away though there was a loudness drop...
i have found a few 3.5 to din now one form the removed link (soory) and somewhere else that do a greay and moreexpenive green version, and a 5 meter ichord at a reasonable price at future shop though i will inquire about the naim option too, looking that up only brought me back here with your replies to others also saying "contact a naim dealer" haha a fine loophole to be in.
yes they are bnc adaptors though i'm not sure about the card, i moved them from the phono in to aux in... i think i was having problems or no sound with the phono in, im assuming these are mainly/only for turntables
thanks for advice Rich

it appears the 5m ichord i was looking at is not made anymore as the site futureshop was a test site and showed the item instock nor can i find it at that length anywhere only 1m, the "green" cable 2.5-3m from hi-fi cables ltd seems like my best bet atm costing arround 70-80, wondering how that cable fares aginst the 3m from flashback sales or the naim.
