Supernait2 just got better

Quite a bit better actually...

A recent purchase of a nice CB 250, Naim full service 3 years ago, intitially for a second system with Kans, had me try it on my SN2. I certainly considered the SN2 a very complete unit and not worth messing with. The urge got the better of me and i thought why not give it a try.

Fast forward 24 hours, and i'm sad to say my Kans might not be seeing the 250 again. Main system is CDS3/XPS2/SN2/250CB into Shahinian Compass, and rather good it is too. The CB 250 has not changed the character of the sound, but has just enhanced, tightened, focussed, and opened up every aspect.

I have likely said don't bother messing with an integrated, and have a preference of the SN2 over a 202/200, but adding this 250 in the mix has enhanced everything i like about the SN2, rather than changed it. I don't think a HCDR has anywhere near this kind of uplift in performance, and this CB 250 cost half the price of a new HC.

Just a thought.

'Brunello di Montalcino red wine'…...

Now that is what i call a fine wine. Envious!

Hi Anto,

I apologise for my poor attempt at humour.

You lucky guy, enjoy your Brunello.

Best,

Chris

Blue Nunn, Black Tower and later on Liebfraumilch. My first experiences as a wine ''connoisseur''

Yeah what fun is drinking if you're not peeing and burping all night long.

That's what my parents drank! Liebfraumilch, and Schwartz Katz. Before that...Lancers.

But then I went for a 250DR.... loving it, but still curious about the CB 250, now even more curious after this thread

ok if you taket the CB 250 sell me the 250 dr.....I'm getting sick of that damn virus called upgraditrius

I'm listening to Patricia Barber, I have a cup of Brunello di Montalcino red wine coming into my stomach along with the bass and drums. Incredible recording

I never said I wanted to sell my 250 DR, it is the latest Naim technology with the new 009 transistors and the better DR regulators, much lower noise floor, more musical.

so while the older NAP 250 seem like a bargain at the moment, I spent my money on the latest 250 DR version, you only live once, so why not try and buy the latest and best version of the legendary NAP 250

Seems to me a waste too , but I got good feedback on SN1/250 , who knows, you can't say until you try.

Here ,common wisdom is that 202/250 don't match well but to my ears 202/200 walks over  SN2, separate are still that much better to my ears. Others may disagree.

Antonio, not sure where the common wisdom is in terms of a 202/200 walking all over a SN2. Certainly not on this forum.

yes sorry I amended.

Each to their own as they say. I owned a 202/200 for several months, and didn't like it at all. One of the few Naim combo's i have no time for.

oh well - I never heard SN2, but I look back at my own posts of 202/200 vs SN1 and wonder how wrong I could have been. Either one doesn't walk over the other one.

Both are "quite good", but depend on a good source to shine, like NDAC

Guys,

my SN2 will get to know his challenger in a week or so, the challenger with the name that cannot be posted here ;-)) The  vendor says it will be 5-10x better than my SN2 out of the box and ships it with an extended full money back guarantee - too sweet to not taste it and find out what is and what is not.

I really love my SN2, it brought me in touch with the Naim brand and there is only Naim left in my living room - apart from the TT and the loudspeakers of course. It seems to be like when you are on top (of a living room;-)) you become the hunted and it is harder to defend that position than to gain it, especially when looking at second hand prices making moves easy.

Will see....

Why not......

There vendors and vendors.

This reminds me of my first encounter with SN . A dealer at the time strongly advised me to replace my72/180 (later to be matched to an hicup) with this new unit. Almost everywhere it was claimed to be the next big thing and ,you know, Stereophile did the rest. I got very excited , as my NAP180 was anyway  due for a service. Just to cut a long story short I tried it with my Lp12 and the new baby was back to him the sooner he expected. More recently vendors and, I'd say a very competent one, is proposing the newer version , as the next- next big thing. Again,  my Linn seems 202 tailored . Only a  vendor agrees  with me, so don't bother the rest. Don't get me wrong SN2 its a very good  and competent unit much better than any xs separate you could think of, but not at that level with my equipment . To each his own .

Hi, I know dealers and vendors very well. It took me years to get to NAIM, money spent money cashed in again and so on. I like these guys when they promise to have the absolute best in store - Naim does the same - I am the customer, I have spent a fortune on Naim  and I expect "my naim" to be ready for competition at any time. I know they are. So bring em up...
