NAC 202 with non Naim power amps

Posted by: Harry Thind on 15 June 2016

Hi!

So I upgraded (?) from a 202/250/ProacD15 combination to a 282/250/NeatXL6. I now have a spare NAC 202, ProacD15 and a spare apartment that is seldom use. What's a cheap and cheery power amp option that would match up with the 202? Any one tried other brands with the 202?

NAP 200 - get it second-hand if necessary.

I second that.

Thanks guys. So there is nothing outside the Naim world that has ever been tried and surprisingly dazzled with a NAC 202?

it is a waste of time, just get a second hand NAP 200.

The Naim punchy and dynamic sound comes the preamp, but the rhythmic part of the Naim sound which keeps you listening to the music comes from the power amp.

Both are needed to get the Naim sound.

I've tried it, and trust us on this, just get a NAP 200 or NAP 180 or a NAP 140 if funds are an issue

as above, D15 are just fine with 200 and above.

202/200 very good system.

Thanks guys. Confirms what i suspected was the only appropriate route - a NAP200. Appreciate the guidance.

Just to state the obvious: If you choose to use a 3rd party amp, your 202 would need a separate PSU like a Flatcap or Hicap. Considering this a used 200 is an even better bargain.

JFRITZEN, I am aware of that. Thanks. I have a spare hicap along with the spare 202. I was just trying the find a cheaper power amp as a second hi fi set up . I am getting the vibe that its not a good idea to try and match a different brand with the 202. I am fine with that. Just thought it was worth checking if some one has had a satisfying experience going down that route.

A NAP 180 would save some cash, if you want to go Olive.
