marc,

I'm grasping at straws here, but are you starting the HDCD at track one? Some HDCDs will only play as such if initialized from the beginning of the album.

Yes it's play from track one the same I used to do before it was repaired

naim said the lens was replaced I think they used something different not reading the hdcd maybe

anybody have an idea or can describe how it's working with hdcd inside the reader?

Try switching to the RCA  output

there is a relay that can go bad that stops the CD player exposting hdcd on the din output

IF you're using your cd player as a transport into the nDac (SPDIF digital out) it does not play the HDCD format. If you use the cd player straight into the pre=amp (analogue out) it will encode and play HDCD format tracks. You should then see the HDCD light on the player illuminate.  By using the digital out (SPDIF switched ) you are by-passing the HDCD encoding circuit in the cd player. This is normal, as it is with my CDX2.2.

I am assuming you have the cd player switched to spdif and linked to the nDAC via the BNC sockets.

I'm sorry for you mine was working great with spdif select to  dig out before I sent it for repair.

it was dig out direct in the ndac, hdcd appeared on cd and ndac hd  light came on and the sound was there

can  someone tell me  if i put the switch to analogue while the cd is playing connected to dig out. will it normally stop to have the sound out, with mine when i select the switch dig out or analogue it continue to sound

it's a one year old cd player is somebody know if name make some changes ?

Thank you

When i asked Naim about how the switch on theCD players works i was told that the switch only works when you do it as per the manual, I.e when powered down. The switch is done via software, so if you switch while powered up then nothing changes.

thank you

So mine is working good as you said

Are some owners with recent cdx2 or cdx5xs would like to share there experiences with hdcd disc and ndac  ?

sure it must have some

When I had a stand alone CDX2.2 it decoded and played HDCD tracks and the HDCD LED would illuminate if it detected an HDCD track. When I connected it to the nDAC as a transport (switch to SPDIF) the HDCD on the CDX2.2 did not illuminate when I knew a track was HDCD format on the disc. When I ask NAIM about this they said with the SPDIF switch on, the Pacific Microsonics circuit (HDCD) was by-passed i.e. there is no HDCD coding passed onto the nDAC. It is what it is I'm afraid. If you want HDCD play on your CD5XS use it as a player direct to your pre-amp and not as a transport via your nDAC.

Graham's explanation is exactly how I understand it, too. If you want to utilise the HDCD encoded discs you're going to have to use your CD player's analogue output.  If you use it as a digital output to nDAC you won't get the HDCD. But using the nDAC it will sound better so you're not really losing anything.

I have for a long time used my CD5XS (and previously a CDX2.2) both into an external DAC and on its own. Only when used as a standalone player will it recognise and play the HDCD encoding on an appropriated disc - as has been stated above. When used as transport to the DAC (currently the BNC input of the ND5XS) I get a quite different, in some ways better, presentation, but certainly no HDCD.

I once asked the forum why the dig/analogue switch was this silly little slider on the back and was asked (by the forum monitor) why I would ever want to use it once set to one or the other.

Pah!
