dbPoweramp puzzle ?

Posted by: al9315 on 17 June 2016

Can anyone assist with this annoying problem please?

I use NDX/dbPoweramp/MinimServer - 500 CDs ripped - all working fine except :-

Double or triple CDs - I can find no way to have one cover photo on the Naim App with a track listing once selected. A single CD is not a problem, just tap screen and see list of tracks.

I did have (until yesterday) each double CD selected in dbPoweramp as Disc 1/1 and accpeted two cover photos on Naim App - not ideal when 4 or 5 CD album

As far as I know I did nothing, but yesterday some (not all) of the double CDs changed on Naim App to one cover photo with both CD track listings BUT - with the cover photo beside every track ?! - perhaps a software update ???

I went (as an experiment) to Windows explorer and selected one CD and on each track deleted the album cover photo from the ID Tag - no effect - cover photo still appears with each track

Is there any way to copy e.g. a 4 x CD opera set using dbPoweramp so that when using Naim App just one cover photo appears with all 4 CD track listings following on?

It is so time consuming re-doing / experimenting with solutions

Thank you so much

Regards,

Al

In Minimserver I've used the disc 1/x, disc 2/x etc. scheme for multi disc albums and got a continuous list. I used the same cover art for each disc. So I know it's possible and reliable.

Sometimes tags can be difficult to remove, or may reappear for some reason after being deleted. dBpoweramp has a feature under its file conversion facility to delete all tags from an album(s) except the ones you specify must remain. I find this to be an excellent weed killer and you might want to copy some files and have a go. It sounds like you have a tagging issue and rationalising tags (even killing all of them and starting over in some cases) will always fix it.

Thanks for the reply - I take it you meant in the 1st line " In Minimserver I've used....." - "In dbPoweramp I've used......" ?

I have just loaded a two disc set:

dbPoweramp - Disc 1/2 follwed by Disc 2/2

Uploaded files - Re-scanned Minimserver - re loaded Naim App

Sure enough just ONE cover picture with disc 1& disc 2 track listing BUT

every track has the cover picture above it (I do not know what causes this)  - I just wish a track listing (text)

How do I get rid of the cover picture above every track name ?

Thanks

If I understand the problem correctly......

For CD sets, (With dbpoweramp) I rip and label each disk separately and add CD1, CD2 etc after the album title each time. I also ensure each rip has the disk set as 1/1. This means when I view in the app, I see each disk separately and clicking on each one shows one album cover image and the list of songs underneath.

Downside is I manually have to play disk 2 after disk 1 finishes - don't know how to make all the disks play one after the other automatically. Perhaps using Playlists?

You do understand the problem correctly BUT

I should have thought there is a way to have one cover picture on the Naim App to "tap" & open - and have the tracks viewable from the 2,3,4... discs applicable

e.g. an opera with 6 discs - do not really wish e.g. Parsifal, Parsifal, Parsifal....................... all with same cover pic. on app

I feel I have tried everything - the results seem to be a bit hit & miss - I have one 2 CD set with one icon/picture for both CDs >>disc 1 track listings >> disc 2 track listings, but as I have said there is a cover picture above every track - which I do not want

I re- dbPoweramped the same 2 CDs and changed the Album title by shortening it slightly - changing commas to hyphens - and the result is each disc appears separatley on Naim app each with it's own (the same) cover pic, but the track listing is fine - no picture for each track

Seems I cannot win ?

Not sure whether this helps but I've noticed that sometimes dBpoweramp will suggest slightly different folder artwork (e.g. different file sizes) which it picks up from images on the Internet. When ripping a multidisc album I tend to treat it as a single album (i.e. no disc 1, disc 2 etc. In the album title) and use the track numbering offset option in dBpoweramp so that all tracks are numbered sequentially.

Also, once I've ripped the first disc and picked up its folder artwork, I use the choose artwork from file option (bottom RH corner in dBpoweramp) for all subsequent discs so that they pick up the same folder artwork from the first disc.

Not sure this is an album art issue.  I have multi cd albums with art for disc 1 that is different from disc 2. As long as the TITLE tag of every track is the same, Minimsever makes this the same album and when you select the album in the Naim app, you get one album regardless of what is in the DISCTOTAL and DISCNUMBER tags.

The naim app seems to pick one of the artwork from one of the tracks (seems random to me) and then uses this as the single artwork for the album, followed by a single track list that is merged and sorted in the correct order.

The minim server documentation also agrees with this...

"Some albums contain multiple discs (physical CDs). For some multi-disc albums, you might want to see a view of the album contents which includes information about which items are on which discs. For other multi-disc albums, you might want to view the entire album contents as a single list in the same way as you view a single-disc album. MinimServer supports both of these options.

For albums whose contents are tagged with the same album title and contain more than one DISCNUMBER tag value, MinimServer displays the album contents as a merged list of items with no disc information shown. The tracks are sorted first by disc number and then by track number. The tracks are renumbered to match the order of the merged list, so if disc 1 of the album has track numbers 1 to 10 and disc 2 has track numbers 1 to 4, the tracks from disc 2 will be displayed as track numbers 11 to 14."

Could it be that you have track ALBUM tags the are not exactly the same?

I now do this also, putting multi disc albums into one folder and treating them as one album. Each to our own.

I have now resovled the issue I hope - finally - just got a load of CDs to re-scan properly !

I did not realise it is imperative that each CD has the album title identical to the others, and when I put in say CD2 - the album title changed to "title, Disc 2" etc.

Thank you all so much for your valuable assistance - and helping me focus my mind on the problem

Great forum !
