Playlists
Posted by: Mr Paws on 23 June 2016
Hi to all,
I've compiled a playlist on my iPad with around 35 tracks but when I go to play the songs I'm told that the server is Offline.
I have another different playlist which was compiled on my iPhone 6 and that plays ok so I'm a bit perplexed here.
Has anyone had this issue before and if so how do I fix this please?
My Music system : Naim Uniti 2 / ReadyNas Duo/ Logitech Server.
Thanks in advance for any advice received.
No idea to your question Mr Paws... but a News Quiz or Now Show fan?
Ok, apologies for any confusion.
("No idea to your question Mr Paws... but a News Quiz or Now Show fan?") I'm bothered if you want to take the **** out of me if I can get some idea on how I can solve a problem by asking more knowledgable members than me. I have taken some time to try to solve this problem myself but to no avail hence my asking for a little help.
The playlist on my iPad / Naim App won't play but a playlist (albeit a different playlist) on my iPhone will play.
The playlist of some 35 tracks won't play because a red triangle appears on each of the tracks telling me that the server is 'offline' but the server is not offline because I can play a playlist on my iPhone.
I just can't understand why the playlist on my iPad won't play.
Cheers..
OK, a few of things to clarify. I assume that you are using the Naim app on both your ipad and iphone and that both playlists have been created using the Naim app. Is this correct? Also, is the app the latest version?
Assuming that this is the case, can you confirm that your Logitech UPnP server (LMS?) appears in the app on your ipad and that you can browse and play other tracks stored on your ReadyNAS using the Logitech server.
Is it possible that you have renamed the Logitech server or renamed the folders and/or directories in which the playlist tracks are stored on the ReadyNAS after you created the original playlist?
Have you tried creating a new playlist on your ipad and, if so, has this had the same problem?

Hi, Thanks for your interest.
I use the Naim App on both devices both have the same firmware etc.
I have had some playlists on the iPad before but after a while I had the same problem even though I'd reinstalled the Naim App. Of course one loses any playlists when the app is deleted from the device unless you want to save it on your music library.
I can create a playlist anytime and it will work OK until one day I'll try to play it again and the songs won't play due to a server issue as point out on an earlier post.
As for the server I've not changed any settings at all. When I import CDs onto my Nas I simply do a rescan and the album is there ready to play.
Just for info purposes I use dBPowerampAsset Premium for ripping CDs. Asset is not used as a server because the Nas has LMS built in.
Thanks Again..
General advice is to create playlists on the server, rather than on an iPad.
Are you possibly trying to control the Uniti 2 via 2 devices i.e. the iPad and your iPhone being connected at the same time via your wifi network?
Otherwise, I can't understand why the app would indicate that the server was not available to you iPad even if your router had given your NAS a new network address.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I never tried to use both devices at the same time as they wont allow it. My iPhone and iPad has separate IP addresses. Myself and SHMBO (who I always encourage to use our music system) compile playlists on her iPhone if she wants and on our iPad and my iPhone too. It did seem to work very well she has her playlists I have mine so happy days.
I'm sure there must be a solution but for now nothing has changed.
Cheers..

Thanks for your reply but the facility is there on the Naim App and was one of the reasons why I bought into streaming and not having to faff around on my PC.
It's not the end of the world but it's just frustrating that's all.

Of course ther is
it will work well, untill you re-set the app - there is no back u-p function for the app-created playlists.
Playlists created via the Naim app on an iOS device can be easily backed up using iTunes.
Select your iPhone/ iPad in iTunes. Select the Naim app under 'Apps'. Select Playlist(s) and then select 'Save To' at the bottom to save to your computer or cloud backup.
Playlists can also then be copied between different iDevices using the 'Add' function.
This still seems like a network issue to me.
The naim app saves the network and directory/file address of each of the files in the playlist so that if any of this information changes the app won't be able to find the music file. Usually this shows as a "no entry" sign [a red circle with a white line across] and a message that the file is missing or the server is offline. I recently shortened/changed the name that my QNAP Asset server uses on the network and had a similar issue but simply navigated to each file in the playlist to replace it and delete the one with the broken link.

The advantage of this is that the playlists can be run from any device.
My question is, how does one set up playlists on a server?
They can be created in Windows using notepad and saved on the server as m3u extension files. Each music file needs to be identified via its directory address on the server. For example in Asset on QNAP each line starts with /share/Multimedia which is the default location for all media files. So a typical file location might be:
/share/Multimedia/CD music/Artist/Album/title
Note that, contrary to Windows the directory structure for Linux based servers uses a forward slash separator "/" rather than a backslash "\"

I've found that playlists created on the Naim app can become corrupted for some reason, and it sounds like you have the same problem. If you back up your phone to iTunes, that can include a backup of the Naim app, including its playlists, so you should in theory be able to restore them from there.
In practice I find it better to create playlists on the server, which are then visible through the app on any device.
