Nait 5 amplifier problem - help needed!

Posted by: wildcolonial on 26 June 2016

Hi there! After years of dutiful service, my Nait 5 amplifier now makes a loud thudding/cracking sound at 1 second intervals through my speakers  once i turn it on and it has warmed up. I've removed the DJ mixer and other inputs i had going into it to try and isolate the issue and it seems to be amplifier itself. The volume control makes no difference to the loudness of the output. The pulse-like sound makes me think that there is an electrical fault of sorts at play here. Has anybody had any experience of this, or can share any advice?

Check the link ribbon at the back. It may have cracked or got damaged.

Thanks Richard, I've just checked it and there are no signs of tear or damage on the ribbon - as far as i can tell.

I had my Nait 5 serviced this year after blowing a transistor - a similar sounding problem  - but that was just the one channel.  I think you can run a cable in place of the ribbon on the Nait 5 to be sure that's not the problem.

Thanks Ian! It's definitely a problem in both channels, so could it still be a blown transistor? The ribbon ports are different from the DIN ports (there's only 4 prongs), so I'm not sure what you mean by replacing it with a cable?

I think you can just use a Snaic 4 lead.

Always assuming Wildcolonial has one, or easy access to one.

Indeed I have not - just the 5 pin DIN connectors
