Playlist trouble

Posted by: PD on 27 June 2016

Hi

I am having trouble with making playlists, I have recently purchased a Uniti serve and a Super Uniti. I have downloaded the latest app 4.8. When I make a playlist of approx. 10 tracks. I come back to this a while later and it has 500 tracks on it, it says playlist is full no further track can be added. It will no let me edit or even delete the playlist.

This is happening on the Ipad and the Iphone

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Create playlists on the server. What server software are you running?

Thanks for the response, We have a Uniti Serve which we are controlling by the Ipad, any idea how to do that?

That's easy.

You control US with an n-Serve app. Simply choose a track / album and there is an option 'Add to' in the top right corner.

You can 'add to' a new playlist, an existing one.

That is a safest optipn too, as a US will back up your playlists.

And then from your NAIm app simply navigate to created playlists and you are set.

thanks, excuse my confusion, but are you saying there is a different app apart from the normal Naim app?

To control a Uniti Serve from an iPad you need an n-Serve app by Naim.

I agree with Adam that creating playlists on the Unitiserve (or whatever other server you might use) is better than doing it on the Naim app. As long as you are backing up the US music files properly to a NAS, the playlists will then also be backed up. It's a minor inconvenience that you have to switch to the N-Serve app to create and edit these playlists. They are then found in a folder in the UPnP input on the Naim app. completely separate from any that you created on the app.

If a Naim app playlist or play queue has mysteriously grown to 500 tracks, it is almost certainly because you have inadvertently used the ... button in the top R corner of the screen instead of the ... button next to an individual track.

Can I pick your brains for a little more info

I can now make playlists from the N-serve app which I can play through the Naim app, the only thing is it only plays one track then will not move onto the next without me going to the app and selecting it, am I missing something here?

Also you mention backing up the Uniti Serve. How can I do this, I do not see the uniti serve on my PC as a drive so not sure how I can then back that up to the NAS drives

If you open a playlist on the Naim app, you should be able to play all of it. Tap the ... Next to the first track, and you should see 'play from this track.' It takes a bit of time to find your way around the app, keep using it and you'll get there.

+1 above

Same as playing an album - use 'play from this track' option.

In a way Naim app treats an album as  'playlist'

I recommend to enable the option in the naim app that the '...'-menu opens also when just touching a track on its name. Otherwise it happens very quick that you start playing the track accidentally, interrupting the currently played playlist.

Yes - to an external USB drive, that you unplug from your network and keep safe.

Optionally a NAS drive.

If I recall correctly, it needs to be backed up to a NAS. Details on how to do it are posted on the knowledge base, but it's not easy. In fact it's a nightmare. Good luck....

Indeed - backing to an external USB may be easier.

What I do is I actually manually add any music I buy to: NAS, 2 external drives.

For all CDs that I rip I tend to copy all the content every 3-4 months to an external drive.

To back up you need to invest in a NAS. Synology and QNAP are the two most widely recommended here, and if you search the forum, you'll find plenty of discussion of them. Once set up, the backups are fully automated and you just leave it alone. Initial setup is a little complicated if you're not used to such things, and I would strongly recommend that you contact Naim support by phone or email. They will be able to guide you through it, or even do it for you via a remote login if you get stuck. (Note that you cannot do this with a USB hard drive, you need a NAS.)
