how to stop the hum       can it be done

If you can remove the cause of the hum (noisy SMPS, faulty fridge, dimmer etc, etc..) then yes, you can stop it.

I have a dedicated spur for my system (split off at the incoming feed) and have done all I can with stuff on my ring-main to eliminate potentially problematic items. I live in a village (i.e. not a densely populated area) and still suffer from audible transformer hum from my Naim kit on a regular basis, so if the problem (DC offset?) is being generated outside of one's own home; the issue will persist.

But ............ as Richard rightly advises, it is well worth putting one's own house in order.

Good luck.

John.

I currently test a demo HiCap - this is the only NAIM component in my flat that buzzes as if it was possesed. I like the effect it has but not the buzzing. And I have mutliple dedicated power supply circuits for each room where NAIM gear sits....

Adam, a dedicated power supply circuit just ensures that you get the same asymmetric mains as supplied to your house from outside.

I do realise that Huge. The reason I wrote the above is that a dedicated mains spur is not the panacea for buzzing HiCaps There are other aspects at play that need to be addressed.

Sorry Adam I misread / misunderstood your post (the dyslexia strikes again ).
