vtuner quality differences servers and streamers

Posted by: Claus-Thoegersen on 04 July 2016

Today I checked the bitrate on a few of the Danish radiostations I have both on my Qb and on my ns01. The strange thing is that the biterate of the same stations (all stations from the Danish national radio) are 192 kbps on the qb, but only 128 kbps on the ns01 server. I thought that both servers and streamers used vtuner for the stations? When I look at hte list of servers on www.vtuner.com the Danish stations are also listed at 128 kbps.

Another thing that is not updated is the on demand shows. Almost all radio programs from Danish national radio" can be streamed, but only a few of the programs that has been available as podcasts for years, are listedh on QB and internet radio on the servers. This is probably a vtuner issue, but maybe they will listen more to Naim than an individual user.

Godmorgen Claus, hilsner til solrig Danmark. Jeg ser frem til at gore en lang fest weekend i Aarbenraa forlaegelse August

Not much help other than information,  Qb & NS01 have different firmware,  so to compare I have looked at my NDX on latest firmware & all the DR stations are showing as 128kbs.  I can't find any stations that are higher than 128kbs but a few are lower.

I wonder if this is another case of Naim servers falling behind as the streamer functionality is developed and improved. The servers (which are also streamers in so far as they all support web radio) are also unable to play the higher quality BBC HLS streams which were introduced last year.

Not sure I understand your post Chris,  I get BBC HLS in both standard res & HD 48kHz 339kb/s,  you have NDX (same as me),  are you saying you don't get it??     I believe the BBC HLS service is only available for UK distribution as I have not been able to find it outside UK.  Why Claus gets DR on 192 & 128 on two different streamers is another question,  the DR www shows only 96 & 192 so something a bit odd to say the least,  most likely a vTuner issue

Mike, what I meant was that while I can get HLS streams on my HDX, I can't get them through my Unitiserve, which, like Claus's NS01, does not support them. I think he plays his NS01 into a DAC, not a streamer, which is where he's missing out. I'm just speculating, of course, that this is also why he can't play Danish stations in 192.

Ah OK,  thats the streamer firmware  (but you don't have an HDX (or do you) your profile shows NDX).       HDX,NS01 & US do not have the OS/hardware to enable the firmware changes that bought in BBC HLS.

Woops, sorry, I meant NDX!! My profile is correct...too late to edit the post now.
