Dead UnitiServes Society

I think I will start a 'Dead UnitServes Society'. Qualification criteria:
- Have or have owned a US
- US has died at least once
As a founding member I will set an entry bar high: 3rd failure within 1 year. The last one was 3 months ago and tonight - it never starterd after a holiday shutdown.
Adam
PS. Off to my dealer tomorrow - this time I will request a new unit.
However, do all there issues with UnitiServes apply to the HDD or SDD versions?
Klout10 posted:Does this also apply to (former) HDX owners? Mine went broke 2 times: first the CD tray had 'a will of it's own' and needed replacement. Earlier this year my HDX wouldn't start after an unexpected power outage ... several capacitors needed replacement, it also appeared that one of the hard drives failed ...
Of course - you are our brothers.

I think both versions suffer some failures - mine is an SSD and failed 3 times already.
My Amendment :
always turn off ' Auto Connection' when not in use - like turning off and unplugging when there's thunder.
( + it sounds better when In use and playing music )
I've heard it said that the US simply packs in too much electronics stuff into too small a space. And I've heard it said by the same person that he prefers to sell you an NS01 rather than a US. This approach is a result of the number of US's that have failed and been returned. It's further underlined by the number of repeated failures he's had to handle and the resulting drop in customer satisfaction. I understand that none of his customers have resorted to violence on his premises, but that the offer of the alternative NS01 is likely to have averted said altercation on more than one occasion.
You'll understand it would be wrong of me to disclose the name of this dealership since doing so would almost certainly unleash a stampede of disgruntled US owners heading for his store... and he only has sufficient NS01's in stock to service his own US customers.
Anon.

This sounds a bit strange. Fit-PC microservers measures about 6.3'' x 7.4'' x 1.6''. They can host a dual core 2.6 GHz CPU, Intel HD 5500, 32GB RAM, one internal HDD/SSD , 2x Gbit Ethernet, WLAN 802.11ac, Bluetooth, 2 HDMI and 1 DisplayPort, 4 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, micro SIM and ... they are fanless and run 24/7!
The best thing I did with my Serve was to sell it. I now have better sound, more storage, more flexible tagging, easier backup and £1,000 in my pocket.
2 slot drives and 1 HD I now have the NS01

Any better / different to US?
I would like to apply for membership if I may.
My US went back last year for a disc replacement under warranty. 6 months ago it quit ripping unless I rebooted it first .. then it quit rebooting. Luckily in the interim I converted all my files to FLAC, stood up a NAS and installed Asset .. all in preparation for sending the US home to be fixed; no longer under warranty unfortunately. It's been gone about 3 weeks and I have to admit I've not missed it, the QNAPS Asset solution is working rather well.
When the US returns we'll probably be parting company ..
I prefer the sound of my NS01 over the unitiserve. NS01 likely has a better power supply. Have tried the NAS route but personally prefer the sound from NS01/Unitiserve

Can we offer you a post of a Distringuished Fellow then?

Improved power supply must be the case...

I'm not sure about being a Distringuished Fellow....

Ok - we skip the additional strings... No strings attached.
Just Distinguished Fellow then
Oh dear, I've had mine for almost a year and it's still working. Should I ask for a refund? I also use mine with something censored - wonder if the elongated canine device helps?

You should back it up to an external drive on regular basis. Apart from that - enjoy it.
A short update on my dead US SSD: Naim and the distributor in Poland have agreed to exchange it for a brand new one. Got an email from my dealer in Warsaw that it's already waiting for me.
I must say - sad that it broke, but very happy with Naim's approach! First class service!

Most indubitably.
That's what I like about Naim, not that I've ever had an issue in 20 years with the brand
Live long and proper Tobyjug
Picked up my US from dealer yesterday, to be informed only fault was a dead CMOS battery which prevented boot after the power outage. Phew, hard drive fine, as is all my music!
Having spent 5 weeks listening to the same music files streamed from my Synology NAS, I have to buck the trend and state that, to my ears, the SQ delivered by the Serve is noticeably superior. I would not have expected to be able to tell the difference, but it really is night and day! I, for one, will not be parting with my Serve any time soon.

Hi Adam,
You should join with my "not very well NDX Society", back at Salisbury for the second time in 2 years. I've had Naim kit for 30 years and never had trouble like this (which is one of the reasons WHY i've had naim kit for 30 years).
