Problems after power outage

Posted by: Bodger on 04 July 2016

Last Saturday the mains supply cut out. On return, the system came back and I listened to some vinyl. When I changed to CD I found I got no sound, except when on maximum volume. Just a weak sound. Last time this occurred, the CDS3 had reset to phono output and I changed the settings to DIN and the problem was solved (from oo to O). This time, I checked this first. Still no sound. I also remapped the 552 input sockets and tried the CD input on various other sockets. No sound. Vinyl plays fine via the Superline, 552.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any solutions? I cannot think of anything else to try. Clearly the 552 is working and the CD player is functioning, albeit weakly. Any advice will be appreciated.

Dave - I've had something similar happen, but managed to sort post a lot of twiddling. Sounds like you are only getting X-talk in the 552, with the CD player producing a signal?

I would, unless you've already tried:

Re-boot 552PS post a rest period and leave for 5 mins

Make sure the 552 volume is turned down

Re-boot the CD PS

Check the DIN output status again - a 555 has this foible.

Map the output for the CD

Check all cabling

Press play and pray...

I know it sounds unlikely but sometimes it seems a re-boot works...

Check the output selection on the CDS3 and the input mapping on the NAC552. They may have been reset.

Gents, thanks for the tips. I have already done all the above. Also with changing input sockets on the 552, the sysytem has been powered down several times. Overnight Sunday as well.

Each time I have checked the CDS3 output is Din. That the socket mapping is correct on the 552. Green light above the SL din input. I am out of ideas. As I said, last time it was a simple CDS3 reset from phono to DIN output.

Are there any hard resets I can do. Restore to factory settings?

Is the CDS3 manual still available for download on the Naim site? I can't find it?

Dave, Mine's in the box, in my shed. Google Naim CDS3 manual. It's there.
